What is rodeo?

Rodeo turns working ranch skills into competition, in two families of events: roughstock — bareback riding, saddle bronc and bull riding, scored by judges on rider and animal over eight seconds — and timed events: tie-down and team roping, steer wrestling, and barrel racing, decided by the clock.[1] [2]

How does professional rodeo work?

Competitors are independent contractors who pay entry fees and chase season earnings — the PRCA world standings are literally a money list, and the top fifteen in each event qualify for the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas each December, where the world champions are crowned. PBR runs bull riding separately on a points system, and the WPRA governs barrel racing's standings.[2] [3]

Where is rodeo big?

The American and Canadian West above all — Texas, Oklahoma, Wyoming and Alberta — with the Calgary Stampede, Cheyenne Frontier Days and the Houston and San Antonio rodeos among the sport's great gatherings; Brazil, Mexico (whose charrería is its own national sport) and Australia sustain strong traditions, and Brazilian riders dominate much of professional bull riding.[2] [4]

How is rodeo awarded?

Who has won the most in rodeo?

A rodeo world championship is decided on money won in the season, which makes it an objective count rather than a judgement — the standings are literally a money list. Counted from the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association's own historical roll of world champions, which stops at 2024, so the 2025 champions were taken individually from its published world standings, and from its 2026 media guide for the qualification records. The association's site sits behind a bot wall, so every page was opened in a browser. Bull riding's separate tour is given its own table. These are the men's championships: barrel racing is a Women's Professional Rodeo Association title and is not included in any total here.
