What is the FFBoxe?

The Fédération Française de Boxe is the national boxing federation of France. World Boxing lists it as France’s member federation.[1] The federation describes itself as “une fédération olympique comptant plus de 60 000 licenciés” and states that it “a pour vocation la pratique sportive de loisirs et de compétition”.[4] Its site presents professional, amateur (Olympic), educational and recreational boxing, as well as aeroboxing and handi-boxing.[3]

What does the FFBoxe govern or do?

The federation states that it has received, by order of the minister responsible for sport, the delegations linked to its activities.[4] It issues licences through an e-licence portal, with the related medical certificates, fees and insurance.[3] It selects the French national teams (“Les équipes de France”) for international events.[3] Its presentation page explains that amateur boxing is governed by an international federation, continental federations and national federations, and that in professional boxing world titles are awarded by bodies such as the WBC, WBO, WBA, IBF and IBO.[4]

When was the FFBoxe founded and where is it based?

The federation’s presentation page recounts that four students practising “l’anglaise” set up the “Fédération française des sociétés de boxe, future Fédération française de boxe”, and that its first president held the post “de 1903 jusqu’en 1940”.[4] It states: “Elle a son siège à Pantin au 14, rue Scandicci (Tour Essor – 8ème étage), en Seine-Saint-Denis.”[4]
