What are the World Boxing Championships?
The World Boxing Championships are the world championships of Olympic-style boxing under World Boxing — the title event of the sport's new Olympic era. The inaugural edition, at Liverpool's M&S Bank Arena on 4–14 September 2025, drew more than 500 boxers from over 60 countries across ten men's and ten women's weight classes.[1] [2]
Who organizes them and how do boxers qualify?
World Boxing owns the championships; boxers are selected and entered by their national federations — a World Championships place is national-team selection, with fields built from the federation's competition calendar and rankings.[1] [3]
Why do they matter?
They are the world amateur titles of boxing's Olympic pathway — the direct successor, in Olympic terms, to the old AIBA world championships — and a core credential on the road to LA28. Medals are world-championship honors earned in national colors.[2] [3]
Who competes?
National teams from World Boxing's 120+ member federations — Olympic medalists and world-ranked amateurs across every division.[1] [2]
