What is World Boxing?
World Boxing is the international federation of Olympic-style boxing — founded in April 2023 by national federations determined to keep boxing in the Olympic Games after the IBA's expulsion, and grown to more than 120 member federations across all five continents.[1] [2]
How is World Boxing recognized?
The IOC Executive Board granted World Boxing provisional recognition on 26 February 2025, and the IOC confirmed boxing on the Los Angeles 2028 program with World Boxing as its governing federation — completing one of the fastest recognition arcs in Olympic history.[2] [3]
What does World Boxing organize?
The World Boxing Championships — inaugurated in Liverpool in September 2025 — plus a growing annual calendar of World Boxing Cups, continental championships and age-group events, and the Olympic boxing tournament at LA28.[4] [5]
How is World Boxing structured?
Member national federations (USA Boxing, GB Boxing's federation England Boxing among the founders) elect the leadership at congress; founding president Boris van der Vorst led the federation through IOC recognition before the presidency passed at the November 2025 congress.[1] [6]
Why does World Boxing matter?
For any boxer with Olympic ambitions, World Boxing is now the chain of authority: its championships are the sport's world amateur titles, and national-team selection to its events is federation-endorsed international standing.[2] [4]
