What is the Federación Venezolana de Boxeo?

The Federación Venezolana de Boxeo is the national federation for Olympic-style boxing in Venezuela. The Comité Olímpico Venezolano lists it under that name among the “Federaciones inscritas en el Comité Olímpico Venezolano”, with Edgar Muñoz as president and @fvbox as its contact handle.[1] World Boxing, the international federation for Olympic-style boxing, names it in English as the “Venezuela Boxing Federation”, both in its May 2025 announcement of newly endorsed members and in its list of national federations ratified as full members at Congress 2025.[2][3] World Boxing’s annual report for 2025 gives the Spanish name, “Federación Venezolana de Boxeo”, among the Pan American national federations it endorsed that year.[5]

Its legal form is set by Venezuelan sports law. The Ley Orgánica de Deporte, Actividad Física y Educación Física, signed on 15 August 2011, defines national sports federations as “entidades de derecho privado para la promoción y desarrollo del deporte y la actividad física con alcance y carácter nacional” (Article 48) — private-law bodies for the promotion and development of sport with national reach.[7]

What does the Federación Venezolana de Boxeo govern or do?

Article 49 of the 2011 sports law sets out the attributions of every Venezuelan national federation: to direct and supervise the activity of its discipline, to issue the technical and ethical norms of its discipline, to exercise disciplinary power, to promote the training and development of athletes, to organise competitions, to call up professional athletes for international representation, to recognise the members of national teams, to adopt its statutes and regulations, and to render public account of its management of funds.[7]

For boxing, the international rules are World Boxing’s. Among the documents World Boxing asks of an applicant federation are its statutes, a recognition letter from the national Olympic committee or sports ministry, a list of office bearers, evidence of compliance with WADA or national anti-doping agency rules and a signed commitment to World Boxing’s rules.[8] The Venezuelan federation passed that process in 2025, when its application was endorsed and then ratified.[2][3]

World Boxing’s remit is Olympic-style boxing. Professional boxing is a separate branch, in which sanctioning organisations such as the WBA and the WBC rank boxers and award their own titles.

When was the Federación Venezolana de Boxeo founded and where is it based?

The COV’s directory, consulted in October 2026, lists Edgar Muñoz as the federation’s president and @fvbox as its contact.[1]

The legal frame within which a Venezuelan federation is constituted is the 2011 sports law. Under its Article 48, a body’s “constitución y funcionamiento como federación deportiva nacional, deberá ser previamente autorizado por el Directorio del Instituto Nacional de Deportes” — its constitution and functioning as a national federation require the prior authorisation of the board of the Instituto Nacional de Deportes (IND).[7]

The federation’s membership of World Boxing is a separate, later date: its application was endorsed by World Boxing’s Executive Board in an approval announced on 22 May 2025, and ratified by the World Boxing Congress in Rome, whose ratifications World Boxing reported on 5 December 2025.[2][4]

How is the Federación Venezolana de Boxeo recognised?

World Boxing. On 22 May 2025 World Boxing announced that its Executive Board had approved the applications of 17 national federations, taking its total to 106 countries; the list includes the “Venezuela Boxing Federation”. World Boxing described the approved federations as “endorsed for membership”, with final approval reserved to its Congress.[2] World Boxing states that “Endorsement is not full membership”, full membership being put to the Congress for approval.[8] The Venezuelan federation appears in World Boxing’s list of “National Federations that were approved and ratified as Full Members of World Boxing at Congress 2025 in Rome”, a heading that goes on to describe them as eligible to vote at future Congresses provided all statutory requirements concerning eligibility to vote have been met.[3] After that Congress, World Boxing reported 124 member national federations approved by Congress.[4] Its directory of federations, which groups members by region with the Americas as “Pan America”, counted, when consulted in October 2026, 182 member national federations: 122 full members, 59 endorsed members and one associate member.[6]

Venezuelan state. Under Article 48 of the 2011 sports law, a national federation’s constitution and operation require the prior authorisation of the IND’s board.[7]

What does the Federación Venezolana de Boxeo organise?

The 2011 sports law assigns the organisation of competition and national teams to the national federation. Article 49 gives each federation the attributions to organise the competitions of its discipline, to recognise the members of national teams, and to call up professional athletes for international representation.[7]

Internationally, the federation is the Venezuelan member of World Boxing, the body whose events include the World Boxing Championships; World Boxing counts its Venezuelan member among its Pan American national federations,[5] a region whose members include the federations of Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Cuba.[6] At home, it is one of the national federations inscribed with the COV, which lists Edgar Muñoz as its president.[1]

Who are its members?

The 2011 sports law sets the structure of membership. National federations “están constituidas por los integrantes de las asociaciones deportivas estadales” — they are made up of the members of the state sports associations (Article 48) — and the state associations are “entidades deportivas de derecho privado, integradas por los clubes para la promoción de una disciplina deportiva” (Article 44): private-law bodies made up of the clubs that promote a sport.[7] Under that law, membership runs from clubs through the state associations to the national federation.

The federation is in turn a member body. It is one of the national federations of World Boxing, ratified as a full member at Congress 2025,[3] and one of the federations listed by the Comité Olímpico Venezolano.[1]
