What is World Climbing Pan America?

The continental council for the Americas of the world federation for sport climbing — formerly IFSC Pan America, renamed with the federation's World Climbing rebrand. It is an internal organ of the international federation, not an independent confederation: it has no separate legal personality, no separate statutes and no separate website, and operates under the federation's organisational regulations and a memorandum of understanding.[1] [2]

What does it do?

It organises the continental championships and series under the international calendar, runs development work in the region — coaching and routesetting clinics supported by Olympic Solidarity, officials' seminars hosted by member federations — and represents its federations to the international board. Members are allocated to it by the IOC-recognised continental Olympic association for the Americas, and it must hold at least four board meetings and one continental assembly a year.[1] [3]

Who runs it — and does it select athletes?

A board elected at an online continental assembly in January 2025, chaired by Willy Montenegro of Chile, with vice-chairs for the northern, central and southern sub-regions and an athlete representative. It does not select national teams and issues no licences — athletes enter continental championships through their national federation, and continental results feed world rankings and regional Games qualification.[1] [3]
