What is World Climbing Europe?

The European continental council of the world federation for sport climbing — formerly IFSC Europe. Like its Pan American counterpart it is an organ of the international federation rather than a separate confederation, but it is by far the largest: 44 of the federation's 94 national federations sit in Europe.[1] [2]

What does it run?

The European Championship and the Europe Series, the Europe Youth Series and Youth Championships, and — unlike Pan America — its own continental rankings and its own set of commissions. Tijl Smitz of Belgium was elected president at an online plenary assembly in February 2025, alongside a vice-president for sport, a treasurer and an athlete representative.[1] [3]

Does it select athletes?

No — entries to European championships come from the national federations. The council sets the continental competition programme and rankings; athlete licensing and world ranking remain with the international federation.[1] [2]
