What is UPAG?
The Unión Panamericana de Gimnasia — Pan American Gymnastics Union, also written PAGU — is gymnastics' continental body for the Americas, working under the FIG and alongside Panam Sports. Founded in Cali in 1971, it now has offices in Mexico City.[1] [2]
What does it do?
It sets participation rules for the region and organises the continental competition programme across every FIG discipline — principally the Pan American Gymnastics Championships and the qualification events for the Pan American Games. It runs technical committees, judges' and coaches' courses and development programmes, and coordinates its members' positions ahead of FIG congresses.[1] [3]
Who are its members?
33 affiliated national federations, grouped in five regions — North America, the Caribbean, Central America, northern South America and the southern cone. Kenia Herrera García of Nicaragua chairs the executive committee.[2] [3]
Does it select athletes?
No. Selection is done by each affiliated national federation — USA Gymnastics, the CBG and their counterparts. UPAG sets entry rules, quotas and qualification pathways for its own events, and administers the continental route into the Pan American Games and any continental places the FIG assigns.[1] [2]
