What is the UIPM?

The Union Internationale de Pentathlon Moderne is modern pentathlon's world governing body — founded in 1948, headquartered in Monaco, and led since 1993 by Dr Klaus Schormann.[1] [2]

What does it govern?

The five disciplines and their competition formats; the World Championships and Pentathlon World Cup; laser run and biathle/triathle as standalone sports; world rankings; and Olympic qualification — including the transition to the obstacle discipline for LA28, whose venue and format work continues.[2] [4]

Why does it matter?

The UIPM made one of the boldest reinventions in Olympic history — replacing a founding discipline to keep the sport in the Games — and its rankings remain the credential ladder for every pentathlete.[3] [6]
