What is SwissBoxing?

SwissBoxing, the short form of the Swiss Boxing Federation, is the national boxing federation of Switzerland. World Boxing lists it as the SwissBoxing Federation, with Amir Orfia as president.[1] The federation states that, unlike in most countries, in Switzerland Olympic and professional boxing are under one roof: “sind in der Schweiz das Olympische Boxen und das Profiboxen unter einem Dach.”[5] Its site is published in German, French and Italian.[4]

What does SwissBoxing govern or do?

The federation’s site is divided into Olympic boxing (“Olympisches Boxen”) and professional boxing (“Profi-Boxen”).[4] Under Olympic boxing it lists championships, weight classes, athlete and club registers, the national team (SwissBoxingTeam), cadet, junior and youth boxing, training bases and a performance-sport concept.[4] Under professional boxing it publishes forms for professional boxing, a list of licensed managers, an approved list of gloves and rules for the EBU Silver Belt.[4] It runs coach education with a continuing-education requirement and publishes disciplinary and organisational regulations.[4]

When was SwissBoxing founded and where is it based?

The federation states: “SwissBoxing wurde 1913 gegründet und anlässlich der DV im April 2009 von Schweizerischer Boxverband in Swiss Boxing Federation (Kurzform: SwissBoxing) umbenannt.” (SwissBoxing was founded in 1913 and renamed from Schweizerischer Boxverband to Swiss Boxing Federation at the delegates’ assembly in April 2009.)[5] It gives its address as Leutschenbachstrasse 95, 8050 Zürich.[4] It publishes the minutes of its delegates’ assemblies.[4]

How is SwissBoxing recognised?

World Boxing. World Boxing’s directory of federations lists the SwissBoxing Federation for Switzerland as a Full Member in its Europe region,[1] and its December 2025 list of national federations with Full or Associate Membership status includes “Swiss Boxing”.[2] World Boxing’s membership page states: “Endorsement is not full membership”, full membership being put forward to its Congress for approval.[3]

Swiss Olympic. The federation describes itself as “einer von 88 Mitgliederverbänden und Partnerorganisationen von Swiss Olympic”, and its home page carries a logo with the alt text “Swiss Olympic Member”.[5][4]

What does SwissBoxing organise?

The federation holds Swiss championships; its home page carries the heading “Anmeldung zu den Elite-Schweizermeisterschaft 2026” (registration for the 2026 Swiss championships), and its menu links lists headed “Meister und Mannschaftsmeister seit 2007” and “Meister von 1913 bis 2006”.[4] Its menu also carries a “Robert Nicolet-Trophy” link and a calendar of boxing meetings.[4] Light-contact boxing, which the federation added to its statutes in 2009, moved to a support association in 2013.[5]

Who are its members?

The federation states that “rund 180 Boxclubs” (about 180 boxing clubs) belong to it, and that “Anfangs 2020 zählt der Verband über 600 lizenzierte Sportlerinnen und Sportler (Schüler, Junioren, Jugend, Kadetten, Elite)” (at the start of 2020 the federation counts over 600 licensed athletes), together with about 40 professionals.[5] Its site keeps a register of boxing clubs, and its news names the Kantonalbernische Boxverband (KBBV) as a cantonal association.[4]
