What is the SBF?

Svenska Boxningsförbundet is the national boxing federation of Sweden. World Boxing lists it as the Swedish Boxing Federation, with Anders Holmberg as president and Patrick Wheeler as secretary general.[1] The federation describes itself as a specialidrottsförbund (a sport-specific federation) and as “medlem i Riksidrottsförbundet (RF)”, the Swedish Sports Confederation.[5] Its home page says it “arbetar tillsammans med allt ifrån det svenska landslaget i boxning till föreningar” (works with everyone from the Swedish national boxing team to clubs).[4]

What does the SBF govern or do?

The federation’s competition page states that it has “två tävlingsformer i boxning: Diplomboxning och Amatörboxning” (two competition forms in boxing: diploma boxing and amateur boxing), the latter also called Olympic boxing.[6] It publishes the rulebook for diploma boxing and World Boxing’s competition rules (“Tävlingsregler World Boxing”) with a Swedish supplement, and handles applications for competition permits (“Tävlingstillstånd”) and for competing abroad.[6] Its site lists work on the national team (Landslag), clubs, children and youth, para boxing, coach education and anti-doping.[4]

When was the SBF founded and where is it based?

The federation’s about page states that it “grundades 1919” (was founded in 1919), and places that 52 years after the adoption of the Queensberry rules.[5] Its site gives its contact as [email protected] and the telephone number 08-699 60 00.[4] It publishes its board (Förbundsstyrelse), committees, office, strategy and board minutes.[4]

How is the SBF recognised?

World Boxing. World Boxing’s directory of federations lists the Swedish Boxing Federation for Sweden as a Full Member in its Europe region,[1] and its December 2025 list of national federations with Full or Associate Membership status includes it.[2] World Boxing’s membership page states: “Endorsement is not full membership”, full membership being put forward to its Congress for approval.[3]

Its own statement. The federation’s about page states: “Förbundet är som specialidrottsförbund (SF) medlem i Riksidrottsförbundet (RF), Sveriges Olympiska Kommitté (SOK) samt anslutet till World Boxing (WB) och European Boxing (EB)” (as a sport federation it is a member of the RF and the Swedish Olympic Committee, and affiliated to World Boxing and European Boxing).[5] Its home page shows the logos of the Sveriges Olympiska Kommitté, World Boxing, European Boxing and RF SISU.[4]

What does the SBF organise?

The federation runs competitions in diploma boxing and amateur boxing, with weight classes for seniors and juniors, and its competition page explains that with direct elimination and at most one bout a day “maxantalet SM-boxare är 8 per viktklass” (the maximum number of boxers at the Swedish championships is 8 per weight class).[6] Its site links a results system (Boxinghost) and its own streaming service (“SBF Streamingtjänst”), and lists a calendar of events.[4]

Who are its members?

The federation’s about page states that it “företräder 10 distriktsförbund/regioner i hela landet” (represents 10 district federations or regions across the country), which “organiserar ca 200 amatörboxningsföreningar med ca 35 000 medlemmar” (organise about 200 amateur boxing clubs with about 35,000 members), as the page gave it in October 2026.[5] Its site has sections for clubs (Föreningar) and for project support (Projektstöd).[4]
