What is the FPI?
The Federazione Pugilistica Italiana (FPI) is the national boxing federation of Italy. World Boxing lists it as Italy’s member federation.[1] Its site describes itself as “Il sito ufficiale della Federazione Pugilistica Italiana - FPI” and is organised by discipline: Olympic boxing (pugilato olimpico), professional boxing (Pro Boxe), Gym Boxe, youth boxing and para-boxing.[3] Its history page also uses the short form “Federpugilistica”.[4]
What does the FPI govern or do?
The federation affiliates clubs and registers members through its “Affiliazione & Tesseramento” service.[3] It publishes separate regulations for its Olympic boxing, professional, amateur, youth and para-boxing sectors, for referees and judges, for coaches, and for its medical sector, each updated by its Consiglio Federale.[5] It runs the national teams under the name Italia Boxing Team, with Elite, U23, U19, U17 and U15 squads, and a Centro Nazionale di Pugilato.[3]
When was the FPI founded and where is it based?
The federation’s history page states that it was constituted “con l’incoraggiamento della Federazione Atletica Italiana”, with its constitution “avvenuta a Milano nel marzo 1916, in piena guerra”.[4] It records that in 1929 the federation moved its offices from Milan to Rome.[4] Its seat is at Viale Tiziano, 70, 00196 Roma.[5]
How is the FPI recognised?
World Boxing. World Boxing’s directory of federations lists the Federazione Pugilistica Italiana for Italy as a Full Member in its Europe region.[1] World Boxing’s membership page states that endorsement by its Executive Board “is not full membership” and that full membership is then put forward to the Congress for approval.[2]
CONI. The federation’s history page states: “La Federpugilistica entrò a far parte del CONI nel 1927.”[4] Its statute in force is the one “ratificato dalla Giunta Nazionale del C.O.N.I. con delibera n. 155 del 22.05.2025”, and its justice and medical regulations were likewise approved by the CONI Giunta Nazionale.[5]
What does the FPI organise?
The federation runs the Italian championships (Campionati Italiani). Its calendar for late 2026 lists the national phases of the U15 championships in Foggia (4–8 November), the interregional phases of the Elite championships in Montecatini Terme (20–22 November), and the finals of the Elite – Assoluti 2026 championships in Cuneo (10–13 December), as well as a national women’s team tournament in Pompei (13–15 November).[3] In professional boxing its calendar lists Italian-title bouts from October to December 2026.[3]
Who are its members?
The federation affiliates clubs and registers individual members (tesseramento), and its site offers searches of gyms and athletes.[3][5] Its site lists regional committees (Comitati), including combined committees for Abruzzo-Molise, Puglia-Basilicata and Piemonte-Valle d’Aosta and separate committees for the provinces of Bolzano and Trento.[3] It publishes the regulations that bind its sectors, coaches and officials.[5]
