What is the FIE?
The Fédération Internationale d'Escrime is fencing's world governing body — founded in Paris in 1913, headquartered in Lausanne, with more than 150 national federations.[1] [2]
What does it govern?
The rules and the electric scoring and equipment standards; the annual World Championships and junior/veteran worlds; the World Cup and Grand Prix circuit; the world rankings; refereeing; and Olympic and Paralympic (wheelchair) fencing.[2] [3]
Why does it matter?
Ranking points, world titles and Olympic berths in fencing all run through the FIE — a continuously published record for a sport that has been Olympic since the beginning.[2] [3]
