What is the CPE?
The Confederación Panamericana de Esgrima is fencing's continental confederation for the Americas, under the FIE and recognised by Panam Sports. It was founded in Buenos Aires on 8 March 1951 and legally constituted in Mexico City in 1955, and takes in 33 national federations from Canada and the United States through the Caribbean and Central America to the southern cone.[1] [2]
What does it do?
It organises the Pan American Fencing Championships at senior, junior, cadet and veteran level — which double as Pan American Games qualifiers — coordinates the continental calendar with the FIE, runs development, coaching and refereeing programmes with FIE support, and holds an annual congress. The 2026 senior championships in Lima drew 346 fencers from 28 countries.[2] [3]
Does it license or select athletes?
No. Fencers reach CPE events through their national federation, which enters its own team under FIE and CPE quota rules; individual licensing is done by the national federation and the FIE. CPE results then feed Pan American Games qualification and the FIE world ranking.[1] [3]
