What is FEVETRI?

The Federación Venezolana de Triatlón (FEVETRI) is the national federation for triathlon in Venezuela. World Triathlon’s member directory lists it under that name and acronym, with the National Olympic Committee code VEN, the Americas as its continental confederation, and the membership status “Affiliated”.[2] The Comité Olímpico Venezolano includes the “Federación Venezolana de Triatlón” among the “Federaciones inscritas en el Comité Olímpico Venezolano”, with Arnaldo Sánchez as president and @fevetri_oficial as its contact handle.[1]

Its legal form is set by Venezuelan sports law. The Ley Orgánica de Deporte, Actividad Física y Educación Física, signed on 15 August 2011, defines national sports federations as “entidades de derecho privado para la promoción y desarrollo del deporte y la actividad física con alcance y carácter nacional” (Article 48) — private-law bodies for the promotion and development of sport with national reach.[5]

What does FEVETRI govern or do?

Article 49 of the 2011 sports law sets out the attributions of every Venezuelan national federation: to direct and supervise the activity of its discipline, to issue the technical and ethical norms of the discipline, to exercise disciplinary power, to promote the training and development of athletes, to organise competitions, to call up professional athletes for international representation, to recognise the members of national teams, to adopt its statutes and regulations, and to render public account of its management of funds.[5]

The sport it covers is the one World Triathlon governs. World Triathlon describes itself as “the only organisation that can award the titles of World Triathlon Champions”, and its formats include age-group and para triathlon, the mixed relay, aquathlon, duathlon, cross duathlon, cross triathlon, winter triathlon and long-distance triathlon.[4] World Triathlon’s directory lists, besides FEVETRI’s general contact, a separate age-group contact for the federation.[2]

Long-distance racing also has commercial series outside the federation structure, among them the IRONMAN races and the T100 Triathlon World Tour.

When was FEVETRI founded and where is it based?

World Triathlon’s member directory records the federation as “Founded 1997”.[2]

The same directory gives its address as “Instituto Nacional de Deporte, Caracas, Dto Federal, 1020” — the premises of the Instituto Nacional de Deportes (IND) in Caracas.[2]

The legal frame within which a Venezuelan federation is constituted is the 2011 sports law. Under its Article 48, a body’s “constitución y funcionamiento como federación deportiva nacional, deberá ser previamente autorizado por el Directorio del Instituto Nacional de Deportes” — its constitution and functioning as a national federation require the prior authorisation of the IND’s board.[5]

World Triathlon lists Arnaldo Javier Sánchez Pérez as president, and also as chief executive, with Yarelis Santos as secretary general.[2] The COV’s directory, consulted in October 2026, gives the president as Arnaldo Sánchez.[1]

How is FEVETRI recognised?

World Triathlon. FEVETRI appears in World Triathlon’s list of national federations, which counts 167 members grouped in five continental confederations — Africa Triathlon, Americas Triathlon, Asia Triathlon, Europe Triathlon and Oceania Triathlon.[3] Its entry gives the status “Affiliated” and the Americas as its confederation.[2] World Triathlon’s About page records that the ITU, as it was then named, “grew to include over 170 affiliated National Federations around the world”.[4]

COV. The Comité Olímpico Venezolano includes the Federación Venezolana de Triatlón in its directory of national federations.[1]

Venezuelan state. Under Article 48 of the 2011 sports law, a national federation’s constitution and operation require the prior authorisation of the IND’s board.[5] The address World Triathlon lists for FEVETRI is the IND’s Caracas premises.[2]

What does FEVETRI organise?

The 2011 sports law assigns the organisation of competition and of national teams to the national federation. Article 49 gives each federation the attributions to organise the competitions of its discipline, to recognise the members of national teams, and to call up professional athletes for international representation.[5]

Internationally, FEVETRI is Venezuela’s member of World Triathlon, within the Americas confederation.[2] World Triathlon’s own events include the World Triathlon Championship Series and the World Triathlon Multisport Championships, and it describes itself as the only body able to award World Triathlon Champion titles.[4] At home, it is one of the national federations inscribed with the COV.[1]

Who are its members?

The 2011 sports law sets the structure of membership. National federations “están constituidas por los integrantes de las asociaciones deportivas estadales” — they are made up of the members of the state sports associations (Article 48) — and the state associations are “entidades deportivas de derecho privado, integradas por los clubes para la promoción de una disciplina deportiva” (Article 44): private-law bodies made up of the clubs that promote a sport.[5] Under that law, membership runs from clubs through the state associations to the national federation.

World Triathlon’s directory lists a separate contact for the federation’s age-group athletes, alongside its general email.[2] The federation is in turn a member body: one of the national federations of World Triathlon, in the Americas confederation,[3] and one of the federations listed by the Comité Olímpico Venezolano.[1]
