What is the DBV?

The Deutscher Boxsport-Verband e.V. (DBV) is the national federation for Olympic boxing in Germany, a registered association (e.V.). It describes itself as “der Dachverband der 17 Landesverbände des olympischen Boxsports”.[6] World Boxing lists it, as the German Boxing Federation, as Germany’s member federation.[1] Its site covers competitive boxing as well as recreational forms such as Sportboxen, Masterboxen, Leichtkontaktboxen, school and university boxing.[3]

What does the DBV govern or do?

The federation selects and fields the German national teams: its site lists men’s and women’s national squads (Bundeskader) and national training centres (Bundesstützpunkte) in Schwerin, Berlin, Hannover, Frankfurt/Oder, Köln and Heidelberg.[3] It named a team of 13 for the European Elite Championships in Sofia in September 2026.[3] It runs coach education at C, B and A licence level and a diploma course, and trains and licenses referees and judges, ringside doctors and cutmen.[3] It publishes the competition rules, weight and age classes and protective rules, and issues start permits.[3]

When was the DBV founded and where is it based?

The DBV’s history page states: “Am 5. Dezember 1920 wird in Berlin der »Deutsche Reichsverband für Amateur-Boxen« (DRfAB) gegründet”, the body to which the successor federations trace themselves; the DRfAB was later renamed DABV (Deutscher Amateur-Boxverband).[4] At the end of 1949 regional federations in the Federal Republic merged at national level as the Deutscher Amateur-Box-Verband, while in the GDR a federation called the DBV represented boxing. In December 1990 the two united under the name of the western DABV, “der seit 2003 »Deutscher Boxsport-Verband« (DBV) heißt”.[4]

How is the DBV recognised?

World Boxing. World Boxing’s directory of federations lists the German Boxing Federation for Germany as a Full Member in its Europe region, with Prof. Dr. Mir Farid Vatanparast as president and Michael Müller as general secretary.[1] World Boxing’s membership page states that endorsement by its Executive Board “is not full membership” and that full membership is then put forward to the Congress for approval.[2]

Own statement. The DBV’s memberships page states: “Der Deutsche Boxsport-Verband ist Mitglied von World Boxing”, that it is a member of European Boxing, and that it is a member of the Deutscher Olympischer Sportbund (DOSB).[5]

What does the DBV organise?

The DBV holds the German championships in Olympic boxing (Deutsche Meisterschaften im olympischen Boxen), with age-group championships from U15 to U23; the U19 championships were held in Warnemünde in June 2026.[3] Its site also carries a Bundesliga section and reports on the 2026 Brandenburg-Cup, with 138 boxers from 18 nations.[3] It has convened its 69th ordinary Kongress for Chemnitz on 10 October 2026.[3]

Who are its members?

The DBV’s members are its 17 Landesverbände, listed from the Schleswig-Holsteinischer Amateur-Box-Verband in the north to the Bayerischer Amateur-Box-Verband in the south; Niedersachsen, Nordrhein-Westfalen and Bayern are further divided into districts (Bezirke), and some Landesverbände do not match the borders of their Länder.[6] The federation gives “knapp 900 Boxsportvereine mit knapp 80.000 Mitgliedern” affiliated through the Landesverbände, “Stand Anfang 2019”.[6]
