The BFI constitution gives its General Council the powers “To convene National Boxing Championships” and “To consider and decide upon participation of National teams in international competitions”.[4] Under clause 5 the federation co-operates with the Indian Olympic Association on teams representing India.[4]

Its site publishes a selection policy, selection-trial details, national coaching camps, national rankings of boxers, a referee and judges list, a registration portal, and registration forms for coaches and for referees and judges.[5] A 2017 notice on its home page about a women’s selection trial states: “This is a step forward by BFI for making the selection trials broad based.”[6]
