What are the World Skate Games?
A single multi-sport championship that stages the world championships of every World Skate discipline at once. First held at Nanjing in 2017 as the World Roller Games and renamed from the 2022 edition, it runs biennially in even years across roughly twelve disciplines: skateboarding street, park and vert; roller freestyle and scootering; inline speed skating on track and road; artistic roller skating; inline freestyle; downhill and street luge; skate cross; rink hockey; inline hockey; and roller derby.[1] [2]

How do athletes qualify?
Entry is exclusively through national federations — athletes cannot enter themselves. World Skate publishes a country quota per discipline and category in each event bulletin, typically three per gender per skateboarding event, and the team disciplines of rink hockey and inline hockey run continental qualification. Skateboarding entries beyond the national quota require pre-seeding on the World Skateboarding Ranking.[2] [3]
Why does it matter?
Because it is the only occasion on which the whole of roller sport is contested at world level in one place — 156 world titles were decided at the 2024 edition in Italy — and because its skateboarding events carry the heaviest weighting on the World Skateboarding Ranking, which governs Olympic eligibility. Colombia and Italy are the two dominant nations; Russian and Belarusian athletes have been barred from World Skate events since April 2022.[1] [3]
