What is the Liga Mexicana del Pacífico?

The Liga Mexicana del Pacífico — Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacífico, after its sponsor — is Mexico’s professional winter league, played on the Pacific coast from October to January while the summer Mexican League is idle. It is a full member of the Confederación de Béisbol Profesional del Caribe, and its champion represents Mexico at the Caribbean Series each February.[1] [4] [6]

How does it work?

Ten teams — Águilas de Mexicali, Naranjeros de Hermosillo, Yaquis de Obregón, Mayos de Navojoa, Cañeros de Los Mochis, Algodoneros de Guasave, Tomateros de Culiacán, Venados de Mazatlán, Jaguares de Nayarit and Charros de Jalisco for 2026–27 — play a 68-game season of two halves, dos vueltas, with points awarded for each. Eight teams reach the playoffs, every round a best-of-seven in a 2-3-2 home format. Players enter through the league’s own drafts, a Mexican draft of unlimited rounds and a foreign-player draft capped at four rounds, both held on 1 July 2026 in Hermosillo. The 2026–27 season opens on 13 October, its second half running from 24 November to 30 December.[2] [3] [6]

Since when does it exist?

The league dates from 1945. Tomateros de Culiacán and Charros de Jalisco have dominated the last decade — Charros winning in 2018–19, 2021–22, 2024–25 and 2025–26, the last a 4–0 sweep of Tomateros sealed on 25 January 2026 — with Naranjeros, Cañeros and Águilas the other champions. Sultanes de Monterrey’s franchise became the Jaguares de Nayarit in 2025.[2] [5] [6]

Why does it matter?

The LMP is one of the four member leagues whose champions contest the Caribbean Series. Charros de Jalisco won the 2026 Series at home in Zapopan, 12–11 in ten innings over Tomateros in the final, which the league counts as Mexico’s tenth title, and Hermosillo hosts the 2027 Series. Its winter calendar makes it the league where players from the summer leagues of Mexico and the United States keep playing.[4] [7] [8]
