What is the Caribbean Series?
The Caribbean Series — la Serie del Caribe — is the championship of Latin American winter baseball: the league champions of Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Venezuela, plus invited nations, meeting every February since 1949 under the Caribbean Professional Baseball Confederation. Mexico's Charros de Jalisco won the 2026 edition at home in Zapopan, 12–11 in ten innings — their first title.[1] [2]
| Season | Pool / Format | Host cities |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 | Charros de Jalisco (MEX) | Zapopan, Mexico — 12–11 (10 inn.); first title |
| 2025 | Leones del Escogido (DOM) | Mexicali, Mexico |
| 2024 | Tiburones de La Guaira (VEN) | Miami (loanDepot Park) — Venezuela's first since 2009 |
| 2023 | Tigres del Licey (DOM) | Gran Caracas, Venezuela — record 11th title |
| 2022 | Caimanes de Barranquilla (COL) | Santo Domingo — Colombia's first title |
Champions of the last five editions.
How does it work?
Each country's winter league — LIDOM in the Dominican Republic, LVBP in Venezuela, Mexico's Pacific League, Puerto Rico's liga invernal — crowns its champion in January, and those clubs (with invitees such as Colombia, Panama, Cuba and Curaçao) contest a round-robin and knockout week, the host rotating among the members.[1] [3]
Why does it matter?
It is Latin America's baseball festival and the winter game's summit — major leaguers and top prospects play for national pride, and for players from the region, winter-league titles and Caribbean Series records are core professional credentials recognized throughout the sport.[2] [3]
