What is Volleyball Canada?

Volleyball Canada is the national federation for volleyball in Canada. It states its mission as “To provide leadership that enhances participation and excellence in Canadian volleyball” and its vision as “Be a world leader in volleyball”, with excellence, integrity and leadership as its values.[3] Its own history pages refer to it and its predecessor together under the heading “CVA/VC”, for the Canadian Volleyball Association and Volleyball Canada.[2] The NORCECA federations list gives [email protected] as the contact for Canada.[6]

What does Volleyball Canada govern or do?

The federation fields national teams in three disciplines, which its site lists as beach, indoor and sitting volleyball, and it publishes international and national competition programmes for women and men.[1] Its national competition calendar covers indoor and beach events from youth to senior level.[5] It works through provincial and territorial associations, which it says it “works closely with” to develop the sport across the country.[4] At the 38th FIVB World Congress in September 2022, its president told delegates that Canada was “a category three country” and that its women’s team was not supported by the state, according to the FIVB’s minutes.[7]

When was Volleyball Canada founded and where is it based?

Volleyball Canada’s history timeline dates the founding of the Canadian Volleyball Association (CVA) to 1953, and places the first Canadian championship in the same year.[2] The timeline lists the organisation’s presidents under the combined heading “CVA/VC”.[2] Its about page lists Mark Eckert under “Executive Directors/CEOs” from 2010 and states that he “became President & CEO in 2016”.[1] The federation gives [email protected] as its contact address.[3]

How is Volleyball Canada recognised?

FIVB. Volleyball Canada’s timeline states that the CVA joined the FIVB in 1953.[2] The FIVB’s working file for its 39th World Congress (Porto, 2024) reproduces the minutes of the 2022 Congress, which record that Mr. Tutton “invited the president of Volleyball Canada, Mr. Mark ECKERT on the floor”.[7]

NORCECA. The North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation lists Canada among its affiliated federations in the NCVA zone, with Mark Eckert as president, [email protected] as contact and 1959 in the “Reg.” column.[6] Volleyball Canada’s own timeline records NORCECA’s formation in 1966 and states that “Canada and USA join NORCECA” in 1968.[2]

What does Volleyball Canada organise?

The federation’s 2026 national calendar for women lists the Senior Open in Scarborough, Ontario (3–5 April), the Youth Nationals at various locations in May, the Canada Cup for beach in Calgary (14–17 July) and for indoor in Regina (21–26 July), the Beach Nationals in Toronto and Vancouver (14–23 August), and the University & College Beach Nationals in Toronto (29–30 August).[5] The 2027 Youth Nationals are scheduled for 30 April to 30 May 2027.[5] Its history timeline dates the first Canadian championship to 1953.[2]

Who are its members?

Volleyball Canada lists 13 provincial and territorial associations (PTAs): Volleyball Alberta, Volleyball BC, Volleyball Manitoba, Volleyball New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball, Volleyball Nova Scotia, the Ontario Volleyball Association, Volleyball PEI, Volleyball Quebec, Sask Volleyball, the NWT Volleyball Association, Volleyball Nunavut and Volleyball Yukon.[4] The federation is itself a member body: NORCECA lists Canada among its affiliated federations,[6] and its timeline records its affiliation to the FIVB in 1953.[2]
