What is the FIVB?
The Fédération Internationale de Volleyball is the world governing body of volleyball — founded in Paris in 1947, headquartered in Lausanne, and with 222 member federations the largest international federation in world sport.[1] [2]
What does the FIVB govern?
The rules of indoor, beach and snow volleyball; the World Championships and age-group worlds; the annual Volleyball Nations League; the Beach Pro Tour; the world rankings; and the international transfer system that certifies every cross-border professional move.[2] [3]
Who leads it?
President Fabio Azevedo of Brazil, elected in 2024 — a former FIVB general director succeeding Ary Graça's twelve-year presidency, with volleyball's commercial arm Volleyball World driving the sport's events and media.[2] [4]
Why does the FIVB matter?
Every international credential in volleyball — caps, rankings, transfer certificates, championship medals — runs through the FIVB and its federations: the official paper trail of the world's biggest net sport.[2] [3]
