What is the UIAA?
The International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation, founded in Chamonix in 1932, represents around 90 national associations and some three million climbers — best known for the UIAA safety standards that certify climbing equipment worldwide.[1] [2]
What does it actually do?
Sets and tests equipment safety standards; runs the Ice Climbing World Cup and World Championships; publishes medical and anti-doping guidance for altitude; advocates on access, ethics and mountain protection; and maintains the UIAA grading and classification work. Competition sport climbing left for the IFSC in 2007, leaving the UIAA focused on the mountains themselves.[2] [4]
