What is the TYF?

The Türkiye Yüzme Federasyonu (TYF), the Turkish Swimming Federation, is the national body for swimming and several other aquatic disciplines in Turkey. Article 5 of its main statute states that the federation “idari ve mali özerkliğe ve tüzel kişiliğe sahiptir” — has administrative and financial autonomy and legal personality.[6] Article 3 gives the statute’s legal basis as Law No. 7405 of 22 April 2022 on Sports Clubs and Sports Federations.[6]

What does the TYF govern or do?

Article 4 of the TYF’s main statute lists the branches it covers: swimming, artistic swimming, diving, open-water swimming, swimming for athletes with physical, hearing and visual impairments, and baby swimming.[6] Its site groups these as swimming, diving, artistic swimming, open water, masters and para swimming.[4] Under Article 6, its duties include running national and international competitions, developing athletes, organising training, selecting national-team athletes and regulating the registration of clubs.[6] Water polo has its own body, which European Aquatics lists separately as the Turkiye Water Polo Federation.[1]

When was the TYF founded and where is it based?

European Aquatics gives 1957 as the year of the federation’s foundation.[2] Article 5 of the main statute states “Spor Federasyonunun merkezi Ankara’dadır” — the federation’s seat is in Ankara — and European Aquatics gives its address in the Beştepe district of Yenimahalle.[6][2] The current main statute was published in the Official Gazette, No. 32917, on 1 June 2025.[6]

How is the TYF recognised?

European Aquatics. European Aquatics’ directory of member federations lists two Turkish members: the Turkiye Swimming Federation, listed first, and the Turkiye Water Polo Federation.[1] European Aquatics describes itself as the governing body for aquatic sports representing Europe, affiliated to World Aquatics.[3]

World Aquatics. The footer of the TYF’s statute page carries the emblems of, and links to, FINA, now World Aquatics, and LEN, the former name of European Aquatics.[5]

What does the TYF organise?

The TYF’s site carries Turkey’s national swimming championships, among them the inter-club championships held in long-course and short-course formats for youth, junior and open age groups.[4] Under its main statute, the federation organises national and international competitions in its branches and selects the athletes for Turkey’s national teams.[6]

Who are its members?

The TYF’s main statute, adopted under Law No. 7405, gives the federation responsibility for regulating the registration of the sports clubs that compete in its branches; its national championships include inter-club events in which those clubs take part.[6][4] The site lists the federation’s president, management board and technical staff.[4]
