What is the TEF?

The Türkiye Eskrim Federasyonu (TEF) is the national federation for fencing in Turkey. Its site’s description reads “Türkiye Eskrim Federasyonu Başkanlığı Resmi Web Sitesi”, and uses the abbreviation TEF for its online services.[3] In its account of fencing in Türkiye, the federation describes itself as founded “Türk eskrim sporunun en üst yönetim organı olarak” — as the highest governing body of Turkish fencing.[4] The FIE lists it as Türkiye’s member federation within the European confederation.[1]

What does the TEF govern or do?

The federation handles club registration for the sport: its announcements for 2026 include “2026 yılı Kulüp Spor Dalı Tescili ve Vize Başvuruları”, the year’s applications for club registration and renewal.[3] It issues the official instructions (talimat) for national competitions, keeps an activity calendar (Faaliyet Takvimi) and publishes a page of provincial representatives (il temsilcileri).[3] The footer of its site carries logo links to the Turkish National Olympic Committee (TMOK), the FIE, the EFC, a world wheelchair fencing site and the Ministry of Youth and Sports (GSB).[3]

When was the TEF founded and where is it based?

The federation’s page on fencing in Türkiye states that the Türkiye Eskrim Federasyonu was founded in 1923 within the Republic of Türkiye (“Türkiye Cumhuriyeti bünyesinde”), and that in the year it was founded it was admitted to the “Uluslararası Eskrim Federasyonu”, the FIE.[4] The page links the start of its activity to the creation of the İdman Cemiyetleri İttifakı in 1923.[4]

The federation is based in Ankara. The FIE lists its address as “06370 Ergazi/ANKARA, Istanbul Yolu Gersan 2307 Sok. No: 65 Ankara”;[1] the EFC gives “06370, Yenimahalle/Ankara, Batı Sitesi Mah., Gersan, 2320 Cad. No:15”.[2]

How is the TEF recognised?

International federation. On its page for the European Fencing Confederation, the FIE lists “TÜRKİYE Eskrim Federasyonu” as the member federation for Türkiye, with Abdurrahman Karataş as president and Atakan Erdal as secretary general.[1] The FIE counts “156 national member federations” in five continental confederations.[6]

Continental body. The European Fencing Confederation includes “Turkiye” in its members list; its profile names the “Türkiye Eskrim Federasyonu”, with Murat Atalı as president and Atakan Erdal as secretary general.[2] The federation’s own president page names “ABDURRAHMAN KARATAŞ”,[5] while its home page carries a president’s message under the name of Prof. Dr. Murat Atalı.[3]

What does the TEF organise?

The federation’s announcements give instructions for its national events of November 2026: the “Yıldızlar U17, Gençler ve Büyükler Epe ve Flöre Türkiye Şampiyonası”, the Turkish épée and foil championships for under-17, junior and senior fencers, scheduled for 16–21 November 2026 in Konya; the “Yıldızlar U17 ve Gençler Kılıç Türkiye Kupası”, a sabre cup for under-17 and junior fencers, on 27–28 November 2026 in Ankara; and the “Büyükler Kılıç Federasyon Kupası”, a senior sabre Federation Cup, on 29 November 2026 in Ankara.[3]

Who are its members?

Clubs are registered with the federation for fencing: its 2026 announcements open the year’s applications for club registration and renewal in fencing (“Kulüp Spor Dalı Tescili ve Vize Başvuruları”).[3] Its site also lists its provincial representatives (il temsilcileri) across Türkiye’s provinces.[3]

The federation is itself a member body: it belongs to the FIE, which lists it under the European confederation, and to the European Fencing Confederation, whose members list includes Türkiye.[1][2]
