What is Swiss Tennis?

Swiss Tennis is the national tennis federation of Switzerland. It describes its work in one line: “Wir fördern und entwickeln den Tennissport in der Schweiz – kompetent und engagiert seit 1896” (“we promote and develop tennis in Switzerland – competently and with commitment since 1896”).[4] It calls itself the umbrella federation for tennis and, in its own words, “the third-largest Swiss sports federation” (“drittgrösster Schweizer Sportverband”).[4]

What does Swiss Tennis govern or do?

Swiss Tennis states that, as the umbrella federation, it works to create conditions for the sport, to develop top players, to train teachers and officials and to promote enthusiasm for tennis.[4] Its site carries sections for the national championships, for the Interclub team competition and for international tournaments held in Switzerland.[6] It links its statutes to a competition-regulations section (“Statuten und Ausführungsbestimmungen”).[5]

When was Swiss Tennis founded and where is it based?

Swiss Tennis gives 1896 as the start of its work, in the line “seit 1896” on its About page.[4] Its address is Roger-Federer-Allee 1, CH-2501 Biel.[3]

Its statutes can be changed only by the delegates’ assembly (Delegiertenversammlung); it states that “zuletzt stimmten die Delegierten am 14.06.2025 umfassenden Statutenanpassungen zu” (the delegates last approved comprehensive amendments to the statutes on 14 June 2025).[5]

How is Swiss Tennis recognised?

ITF. The draft minutes of the International Tennis Federation’s 2024 Conference and Annual General Meeting, held in Hong Kong, China, on 10–11 October 2024, list Swiss Tennis (SUI) among the Class B member associations in attendance.[2] The ITF’s 2026 membership and share register lists Switzerland under “Class B Members with voting rights”.[1]

Europe. Under the heading “Mitglied von”, Swiss Tennis lists the ITF and Tennis Europe, the European tennis federation.[5]

What does Swiss Tennis organise?

Its competition menu lists three national championship events: the Securiton Swiss Champion Trophy, the Vaudoise Junior Champion Trophy and the SWICA Senior Champion Trophy.[6] It also lists the Interclub competition with its NLA and NLB divisions, the Vaudoise Junioren Interclub, as well as tournament formats including the Club Champion Trophy, the Next Gen Trophy and the Women’s Grand Prix.[6] A further section covers international tournaments in Switzerland: ATP, WTA and ITF events and Tennis Europe junior events (“TE U12/U14/U16”).[6]

Who are its members?

Swiss Tennis states that its members are tennis clubs and tennis centres from all over Switzerland: “Die Mitglieder von Swiss Tennis sind Tennisclubs und Tenniscenter aus der ganzen Schweiz.”[6] It gives their number as “über 860 Mitglieder, die einem der 19 Regionalverbände angehören” (more than 860 members, each belonging to one of the 19 regional associations), with a link to its 2025 statistics.[6]
