What is Swiss Cycling?

Swiss Cycling, which titles its site “Verband Schweizer Radsport”, is the national federation for cycling in Switzerland.[3] It states that it “fördert das Velo im Leistungs- und Breitensport”, promoting cycling in competitive and recreational sport, and that it sees itself as a centre of competence for Swiss cycling (“Kompetenzzentrum des Schweizer Radsports”).[3][4]

The European Cycling Union (UEC) lists Luana Bergamin as its president and Thomas Peter as director.[2]

What does Swiss Cycling govern or do?

The federation states that “acht teilweise grundverschiedene Sportarten” are practised under its umbrella.[4] It states that it trains commissaires in all cycling disciplines, and that “Swiss Cycling bietet in Zusammenarbeit mit Jugend+Sport in neun Radsportdisziplinen Aus- und Weiterbildungen an.”[4] For young riders it names 18 regional training bases (“regionalen Stützpunkten”).[4]

It issues licences: its members receive “eine kostenfreie Cycling for all-Lizenz, welche zur Teilnahme an sämtlichen Open-Wettkämpfen berechtigt.”[5]

When was Swiss Cycling founded and where is it based?

Swiss Cycling is based in Grenchen. The UEC lists its address as “Velodrome Suisse, Sportstrasse 44, 2540 Grenchen”, and the federation’s own pages give Sportstrasse 44, CH-2540 Grenchen.[2][4] The UEC also gives its president and director, Luana Bergamin and Thomas Peter.[2]

How is Swiss Cycling recognised?

UCI and UEC. Under the heading “Mitglied von”, the federation lists the UCI and the UEC, with links to their sites.[4] The UEC lists Switzerland (SUI) among its 51 affiliated European federations, describes itself as forming “a liaison between the International Cycling Union (UCI) and the national federations which it represents in this instance”, and states: “Every european federation member of the UCI is automatically member of the UEC.”[1]

Swiss Olympic. The same “Mitglied von” list names Swiss Olympic and Jugend+Sport, again with links to their sites.[4]

What does Swiss Cycling organise?

The federation’s calendar runs national series and championships. In October 2026 its home page listed the 65th Internationales Radquer Steinmaur on 11 October, a round of the Swiss Cyclocross Cup, and a gravel festival in Bern on 17 October.[3] It listed Swiss track championships for under-19 and under-17 women for 18 February 2027, and linked its coverage of the UCI track world championships in Shanghai, which began on 14 October 2026.[3]

Who are its members?

The federation takes both individual and organisational members. Its membership page invites private persons to join (“Mit deiner Mitgliedschaft setzt du dich für den Schweizer Radsport ein!”) and has a separate entry for organisations, alongside a section for cantonal and regional associations and clubs (“Kantonal-/Regionalverbände & Clubs”).[5] Members receive partner discounts, the free Cycling for all licence and the association magazine Ready to Ride, sent twice a year.[5]
