What are the UCI Road World Championships?
The UCI Road World Championships are cycling's national-team championship — held annually since 1921, the winner of each event earning the rainbow jersey worn for the following year. Tadej Pogačar is the back-to-back men's champion after Kigali 2025 — Africa's first Worlds — and Canada's Magdeleine Vallières the women's champion, ahead of a home Worlds in Montréal, September 20–27, 2026.[1] [2]

How do riders qualify?
Nations enter squads sized by the UCI rankings — riders race for country, not trade team, across elite road races, individual time trials, U23 and junior events, and the mixed relay. Selection by a national federation is itself a documented credential.[1] [3]
Why do they matter?
The rainbow jersey is cycling's most distinctive honor — worn in every race for a year, its stripes on a champion's sleeve for life — and the Worlds' roll of honor is the sport's pantheon.[2] [3]
