What is Swiss Aquatics?

Swiss Aquatics, whose statutes carry the name Schweizerischer Schwimmverband (SSCHV), is the aquatics federation of Switzerland.[5] It describes itself as “der nationale Fach- und Dachverband für die Bewegung im Wasser” — the national specialist and umbrella federation for movement in water — covering swimming, artistic swimming, water polo and diving.[4] Its statutes state: “Der SSCHV ist ein Verein im Sinne von Art. 60 ff des Schweizerischen Zivilgesetzbuches (ZGB).”[5]

What does Swiss Aquatics govern or do?

Under Article 12 of its statutes, the federation presents itself as the internationally and nationally recognised governing body for aquatic sports in Switzerland, operating on a non-profit basis.[5] It publishes the general competition rules (Allgemeine Wettkampfbestimmungen), its licensing rules, rules for each discipline, a legal-proceedings regulation and a strategy paper for 2025–2028.[6] Its site carries high-performance sections for artistic swimming, diving and water polo, alongside swimming and open water.[3]

When was Swiss Aquatics founded and where is it based?

Swiss Aquatics gives its founding as “Gegründet: 1918”, and European Aquatics’ profile of the federation gives the same year.[4][1] Its statutes place its seat at the address of its administrative office (“Sein Sitz befindet sich am Domizil der Geschäftsstelle des SSCHV”), which its site gives as Lindenpark, Lindenhofstrasse 1, CH-3048 Worblaufen.[5][3] The statutes state that they apply from 25 April 2026 (“Sie gelten ab 25. April 2026.”).[5]

How is Swiss Aquatics recognised?

World Aquatics. Article 14 of the statutes states: “Der SSCHV ist international Mitglied von World Aquatics (AQUA) und damit automatisch auch von European Aquatics (EA).” — it is a member of World Aquatics and thereby automatically of European Aquatics.[5]

European Aquatics. European Aquatics’ directory of federations lists Switzerland’s member as Swiss Aquatics.[2] Its profile gives the Worblaufen address, lists Ewen Cameron and Bartolo Consolo, each with the title President, and names Jonas Kissling as general secretary (October 2026).[1]

What does Swiss Aquatics organise?

The federation’s site lists national championships including the Kurzbahn Schweizermeisterschaft (short-course Swiss championships) in Lausanne and the Masters Schweizermeisterschaft in Lugano.[3] It holds delegates’ and sport assemblies, with a 2026 section on its site, and its organisation pages cover its central board (Zentralvorstand), its sport directorates and its regional associations.[8]

Who are its members?

Swiss Aquatics’ About us page gives its membership, as shown in October 2026, as “ca. 175 Vereine”, “ca. 80’000 aktive Mitglieder (bei den Vereinen)” and “ca. 8000 lizenzierte Athlet:innen” — about 175 clubs, 80,000 active club members and 8,000 licensed athletes.[4] Article 22 of its statutes divides members into those with voting and election rights, among them category A clubs and honorary members, and those without, among them category B clubs and individual members.[5] It states: “Swiss Aquatics hat 5 angeschlossene regionale Mitgliederverbände” — Région Suisse Romande, Regione Svizzera Italiana, Region Ostschweiz, Region Zentralschweiz West and Region Zentralschweiz Ost, which “fördern die Breitenentwicklung der aquatischen Sportarten ihrer Region.”[7]
