What is the SCF?

Svenska Cykelförbundet (SCF), the Swedish Cycling Federation, is the national federation for cycling in Sweden. It describes itself as “ett av landets äldsta specialidrottsförbund”, one of the country’s oldest sport-specific federations.[3] Its task, as it sets it out, is “att främja och administrera cykelidrotten i Sverige” and to represent the sport abroad.[3]

The European Cycling Union (UEC) lists Stefhan Klang as its president and Leif Karlson as general secretary.[2]

What does the SCF govern or do?

The federation administers nine disciplines: “bancykel, BMX, cykelcross, E-cycling, gravel, mountainbike, landsväg, paracykel och trial”.[3] It states that its newest discipline group, gravel, was formed in 2023, and that mountain bike is divided into XCO, XCM and gravity groups.[3] Its pages link to licences (“Licenser”), a licence portal (“Licensportalen”) and an anti-doping section.[3]

Its decision-making bodies are, in its words, “förbundsstyrelsen samt det årliga Förbundsmötet som äger rum i mars varje år”.[3]

When was the SCF founded and where is it based?

The federation states: “Svenska Cykelförbundet (SCF) bildades den 18 februari 1900”.[3] It adds that “Vid bildandet och fram till 1938 var namnet Svenska Velocipedförbundet och inträde till RF gjordes 1904”: it carried the name Svenska Velocipedförbundet until 1938, and joined the Swedish Sports Confederation (RF) in 1904.[3] The UEC lists a Stockholm postal address, 106 31 Stockholm, and the e-mail address [email protected].[2]

How is the SCF recognised?

UCI and UEC. Under the heading “Cykelsporten internationellt, medlemsorganisationer”, the federation lists “Internationella Cykelförbundet (UCI)”, the European Cycling Union and Nordic Cycling.[3] The UEC lists Sweden (SWE) among its 51 affiliated European federations, describes itself as forming “a liaison between the International Cycling Union (UCI) and the national federations which it represents in this instance”, and states: “Every european federation member of the UCI is automatically member of the UEC.”[1] See the UCI.

Swedish Sports Confederation. The federation states: “Svenska Cykelförbundet är anslutet till Sveriges Riksidrottsförbund (RF)”.[3]

What does the SCF organise?

The federation runs the Swedish championships (SM) across its disciplines. In September 2026 it announced that the trial SM organised by CK Masters outside Gothenburg had been moved to 17 October 2026, and reported on the handcycle pursuit SM (“SM jaktstart handcykel”) held at Klarälvsloppet.[4] On 15 October 2026 it announced 31 October as the last day to apply for support for digital education courses (“digitala utbildningar”).[4]

Who are its members?

The federation states that it “består av 20 distriktsförbund och cirka 450 föreningar fördelade i hela landet”: 20 district federations and about 450 clubs across the country.[3] Clubs and district federations make up the annual general meeting, which elects the federation’s board: “Föreningar och distriktsförbund utgör Förbundsmötet som i sin tur väljer Förbundsstyrelsen.”[3]
