What is SEGAS?
SEGAS (ΣΕΓΑΣ) is the national athletics federation of Greece. Its website is titled “Το Επίσημο Site της Ελληνικής Ομοσπονδίας Στίβου”, the official site of the Hellenic Athletics Federation, and calls itself “Ο ιστότοπος της αρχαιότερης Ομοσπονδίας” — the site of the oldest federation.[3] Its history page describes it as “η πρώτη Ομοσπονδία που ιδρύθηκε (1897)”, the first federation to be founded.[4] The Athletics Integrity Unit lists the Greek federation under the French name Association Hellénique d’Athlétisme Amateur.[1]
What does SEGAS govern or do?
The federation’s site is organised around its clubs (Σωματεία) and its regional associations (ΕΑΣ/ΤΕ ΣΕΓΑΣ), and carries pages for its board of directors, its committees, its past presidents and secretaries general, and the organisation chart of its technical structure.[3] It publishes a list of selected athletes by regional association, and its ranking menu links to the World Athletics and European Athletics rankings.[3] Its calendar and announcements page carries the competition programme and the notices for each meeting.[5]
When was SEGAS founded and where is it based?
According to its history page, 28 clubs were present and accredited at a first meeting in January 1897, and a congress held from 12 to 15 January 1897 decided the founding of SEGAS and its statute (“αποφασίστηκε η ίδρυση του ΣΕΓΑΣ και το καταστατικό του”); the page cites a royal decree of 7 February 1897 published in the Government Gazette (ΦΕΚ 25, Τεύχος Β).[4] The federation gives its address as Λ. Συγγρού 137, Νέα Σμύρνη, 171 21.[3]

European Athletics. The same list assigns the federation to the area association EA, European Athletics.[1] The SEGAS site links to both World Athletics and European Athletics.[3]
