What is the RFEE?
The Real Federación Española de Esgrima (RFEE) is the national federation for fencing in Spain. The FIE lists it, under the European Fencing Confederation, as “Real Federacion Espanola de Esgrima”, at “28008 MADRID, Ferraz 16, 6”.[1] The federation’s own site carries the name “Real Federación Española de Esgrima” and the footer “© REAL FEDERACIÓN ESPAÑOLA DE ESGRIMA”.[3] Its president page states that the president “Ostenta la dirección económica, administrativa y deportiva de la R.F.E.E., de acuerdo con lo previsto en los Estatutos”.[5]
What does the RFEE govern or do?
The federation’s site presents its governing bodies as a president, a Junta Directiva, an Asamblea General, a Comisión Delegada and a set of committees.[3] Its president page says the president is elected by secret ballot of the members of the General Assembly “cada cuatro años, coincidiendo con los años de los juegos olímpicos de verano”.[5]
The site publishes the national competition calendar and results through an external platform, app.skermo.org, alongside regional calendars, and reports on Spanish fencers at international events, among them a European title won at Antony in June 2026.[3]
When was the RFEE founded and where is it based?
The federation is based in Madrid. Its site footer gives the address C/ Ferraz 16 6º, 28008 Madrid,[3] and the FIE’s directory gives the same street address.[1] Its site also keeps a page for the federation’s 2024 electoral process (“Proceso electoral 2024”), and its president page describes the four-year cycle of presidential elections timed to the summer Olympic years.[3][5]
How is the RFEE recognised?
International federation. The Fédération Internationale d’Escrime lists the Real Federacion Espanola de Esgrima in its directory, with José Luis Abajo as president.[1] The FIE states that it has “156 affiliated Member Federations”, and lists five continental confederations that it recognises.[2]
Continental body. The FIE’s directory places the federation under the European Fencing Confederation, for which it gives 50 members.[1]
Olympic committee and state. The federation’s site displays logos linked to the FIE (fie.org), to eurofencing.info, to the Comité Olímpico Español (coe.es) and to the Consejo Superior de Deportes (csd.gob.es).[3]
What does the RFEE organise?
National championships. The federation’s news reported a Campeonato de España M15 held in Torrejón de Ardoz, in an item dated 2 June 2026.[3]
International events in Spain. Its news of 22 December 2025 reported Burgos as host of the XXVII Copa del Mundo Junior de Espada.[3]
Calendars. The national calendar and results are published on the app.skermo.org platform, and a separate page collects the calendars of the regional federations (“Calendarios autonómicos”).[3]
Who are its members?
The federation is organised through regional bodies. Its page “Federaciones Autonómicas de Esgrima” lists them from the Federación Andaluza de Esgrima and the Federación Aragonesa de Esgrima to the Federación Vasca de Esgrima and the Federación de Esgrima Ceuta; the Balearic and Cantabrian bodies appear as the Delegación Balear de Esgrima and the Delegación Cántabra de Esgrima.[4] The federation is itself one of the members of the European Fencing Confederation listed by the FIE.[1]
