What is the JTA?
The Japan Tennis Association (JTA; 公益財団法人日本テニス協会) is the national tennis federation of Japan.[3] It describes itself as “a national sports federation (NF) that supervises and represents the tennis community in Japan”.[4] Its home page states that the site is run to provide JTA information to tennis players and to promote tennis in Japan (“日本のテニスを振興することを企図して運営されています”).[3]
What does the JTA govern or do?
The JTA lists nine public-interest programmes.[4] Among them, it selects and sends players to international events, manages player registration and national rankings, and hosts or supports tournaments.[4] Its site has sections for Japan’s teams in the Davis Cup and the Billie Jean King Cup, for its tournaments and for the All Japan Championships.[3][4] It publishes its articles of incorporation and regulations (定款・各種規程).[3]
When was the JTA founded and where is it based?
The JTA states that it was established in 1922 as a voluntary association.[4] It records that it became an incorporated foundation in 1980 and “a public-interest incorporated foundation in 2012 under a revised legal structure”.[4] Its address is Japan Sport Olympic Square 7F, 4-2 Kasumigaoka-machi, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo 160-0013.[4]
How is the JTA recognised?
ITF. The draft minutes of the International Tennis Federation’s 2024 Conference and Annual General Meeting, held in Hong Kong, China, on 10–11 October 2024, list the “Japan Tennis Association” (JPN) among the Class B member associations in attendance.[2] The ITF’s 2026 membership and share register lists Japan under “Class B Members with voting rights”.[1] The JTA states that it is a member of the ITF.[4]
Asia. The JTA states that it is a member of the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF).[4] It also names the Japan Sports Association among the bodies of which it is a member.[4]
What does the JTA organise?
The JTA states that it hosts or supports tournaments including the Japan Open and the All Japan Tennis Championships.[4] Its All Japan Championships section (全日本テニス選手権) covers the 101st edition in 2026, with fact sheets for the qualifying rounds, the East and West qualifiers and the main draw.[5] The same section lists further events, among them the All Japan Junior Championships (全日本ジュニアテニス選手権), the national primary-school championships, the Japan Open Junior and an ITF W100 tournament in Takasaki.[5]
Who are its members?
According to the JTA, nine regional tennis associations and 47 prefectural tennis associations are affiliated with it as member organisations.[4] Its member page lists the regional associations with their founding years, among them the 関東テニス協会 and the 関西テニス協会 (both 1922), the 九州テニス協会 (1925) and the 北海道テニス協会 (1938), followed by the prefectural associations (都府県テニス協会), each linked to its own site.[6]
