What is the HPS?
The Hrvatski plivački savez (HPS) is the swimming federation of Croatia; European Aquatics lists it as the Croatian Swimming Federation.[2] The HPS describes itself as “krovna je organizacija vodenih sportova u Republici Hrvatskoj”, the umbrella organisation for water sports in the Republic of Croatia.[3] Its About page gives its OIB (personal identification number) as 25406717378.[3]
What does the HPS govern or do?
The HPS states that its task is “skrb, razvoj, poticanje i promicanje plivačkog sporta”, the care, development, encouragement and promotion of swimming, in Croatia and internationally.[3] It lists athlete development, coach education, organisation and the exchange of information with clubs among its activities.[3] European Aquatics lists separate Croatian federations for water polo, artistic swimming and diving.[2]
When was the HPS founded and where is it based?
The sources give three dates. The HPS history page states: “Hrvatski plivački savez je osnovan 5. listopada 1909. u Zagrebu” (founded on 5 October 1909 in Zagreb).[4] The federation’s About page states that it was founded in Zagreb in 1939.[3] European Aquatics gives 1946 as the year of foundation.[1] The HPS gives its address as Metalčeva 5, 10000 Zagreb.[3]
How is the HPS recognised?
European Aquatics. The directory of European Aquatics lists the Croatian Swimming Federation among the four Croatian federations in its directory.[2] Its profile gives the website hrvatski-plivacki-savez.hr, names Josip Varvodic as President and Ivana Jerkovic as General Secretary (October 2026).[1]
World Aquatics. The HPS states that it is a member of the European swimming federation (LEN) and the world swimming federation (FINA), the former names of European Aquatics and World Aquatics.[3]
What does the HPS organise?
The HPS calendar for 2026 lists the Croatian championships: for cadets in Pula (February, 25 m) and Zagreb (July, 50 m); for age groups and seniors in Zagreb (22–25 July, 50 m) and Rijeka (17–20 December, 25 m); the team championship “Kup Ivana Varvodića” in Split (May); and an open masters championship in Sisak (4 October).[6] Each entry names a host club or regional association, such as PK Kantrida for the December championship in Rijeka.[6]
Who are its members?
The HPS publishes a list headed “Klubovi-članovi Hrvatskog plivačkog saveza s osnovnim podacima”, the member clubs of the federation with basic data, which also includes county associations such as the swimming associations of Split-Dalmatia and Vukovar-Srijem counties.[5] The same page links a list of all full and provisional members of the HPS.[5] The 2026 calendar names the Zagreb swimming association (ZPS) and the Split-Dalmatia association (PS SDŽ) as championship hosts.[6]
