What is the Ε.Ο.Π.?
The Ελληνική Ομοσπονδία Ποδηλασίας (Ε.Ο.Π.), the Hellenic Cycling Federation, is the national federation for cycling in Greece. Its home page states that it “είναι μέλος της Διεθνούς Ένωσης Ποδηλασίας (U.C.I.)” and describes it as “μια από τις παλαιότερες Ομοσπονδίες της Ελλάδας”, one of the oldest federations in Greece.[3]
The European Cycling Union (UEC) lists it as the Hellenic Cycling Federation, with Vasilios Diamantopoulos as president and Sabrina Tsakona Twiss as general secretary.[2]
What does the Ε.Ο.Π. govern or do?
The federation’s site reports on the Greek national teams. In October 2026 it reported the national road team at the European road championships in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and on 10 October the departure of the national track sprint team for Shanghai, China.[3]
Its news also covers national championships and school cycling events, and it points visitors to its clubs: “Ανακάλυψε την πλησιέστερη ομάδα στην περιοχή σου!”[3]
When was the Ε.Ο.Π. founded and where is it based?
The federation’s history page records that “το 1937 ιδρύθηκε η Ποδηλατική Ομοσπονδία Ελλάδος (ΠΟΕ)”, that “η Ομοσπονδία επανιδρύθηκε το 1947”, when it joined on a temporary basis the Σύνδεσμο Ελληνικών Γυμναστικών και Αθλητικών Σωματείων (ΣΕΓΑΣ), and that “Το 1973 ιδρύθηκε η Ελληνική Ομοσπονδία Ποδηλασίας (Ε.Ο.Π.)”.[4] The same page dates the first national championship (“το πρώτο Πανελλήνιο Πρωτάθλημα Ποδηλασίας”) to 1929.[4]
The UEC lists its address at the National Velodrome of Athens in Marousi.[2]
How is the Ε.Ο.Π. recognised?
UCI. The federation states that it is a member of the UCI, and its history page refers to the 1973 federation “με διεθνή αναγνώριση από την UCI”.[3][4]
European Cycling Union. The UEC lists Greece (GRE) among its 51 affiliated European federations, describes itself as forming “a liaison between the International Cycling Union (UCI) and the national federations which it represents in this instance”, and states: “Every european federation member of the UCI is automatically member of the UEC.”[1]
Other bodies. Its home page links to the UEC, the Balkan Cycling Union and the Hellenic Olympic Committee (Ελληνική Ολυμπιακή Επιτροπή).[3]
What does the Ε.Ο.Π. organise?
On 12 October 2026 the federation reported the national XCE mountain bike championship and a round of the 2026 XCC Cup at Kassandreia, Chalkidiki.[3] It reported the 13th Panhellenic School Sports Day in Trikala on 1 October 2026.[3] Its site also states that the Διεθνής Ποδηλατικός Γύρος Ελλάδας, the International Cycling Tour of Greece, was revived after ten years and entered the UCI calendar for 2022.[3]
Who are its members?
The federation’s members are clubs (σωματεία) grouped under regional bodies. Its page “Τοπικές Ενώσεις - Επιτροπές - Σωματεία” lists six: the union of cycling clubs of Macedonia–Thrace in Thessaloniki, and regional committees for Attica (at the Athens Olympic Velodrome), Central Greece (Larissa), the Peloponnese and Western Greece (Tripoli), Crete (Rethymno) and the Dodecanese (Rhodes), each with a list of member clubs.[5]
