What is the FVDE?
The Federación Venezolana de Deportes Ecuestres (FVDE) is the national federation for equestrian sport in Venezuela. It describes itself in these words: “La Federación Venezolana de Deportes Ecuestres es el órgano rector de la actividad deportiva nacional; está afiliada a la Federación Ecuestre Internacional (FEI), al Instituto Nacional del Deporte y al Comité Olímpico Venezolano.”[2] Its site carries the motto “EL ECUESTRE ES NUESTRO COMPROMISO”.[1]
The federation states that it “Agrupa a cuatro disciplinas: Salto, Adiestramiento, Prueba Completa y Paraecuestre – Olimpiadas Especiales”.[2] It describes jumping, dressage and eventing as the three Olympic equestrian disciplines, and adds a regional jumping division, Salto Regional, created “con el objetivo de fomentar el desarrollo del deporte ecuestre” for beginners, young riders and young horses.[3] Its stated mission is “Procurar la promoción permanente del ecuestre en la población venezolana, el progreso y la multiplicación continua de los jinetes”.[2] The Comité Olímpico Venezolano lists it among the national federations, with Alberto Pérez as president.[5]
What does the FVDE govern or do?
The FVDE writes the national rules for each discipline, approved by its General Assembly. Its 2026 regulations for national jumping and for dressage were both approved on 17 November 2025.[4][6] The jumping regulation provides (Article 200): “Todos los Concursos y Pruebas de Salto, controlados por la F.V.D.E., se regirán por las disposiciones del R.G.V. y/o Reglamento para Concursos de Salto de la F.E.I.” — its own Reglamento General Venezolano and the FEI’s jumping rules.[4] The dressage regulation states: “Todos los temas no contemplados en este reglamento se regirán por los Reglamentos y Estatutos FEI”.[6]
The regulations set rider categories by age and experience and horse categories by age and level, and they register both riders and horses with the federation.[4] National judges are designated by the board from a list approved by the Assembly, and dressage judges must observe “el CODEX FEI para Jueces de Adiestramiento”.[6] Among its statutory duties the federation lists to “Ajustar sus actividades a las regulaciones que establece el Comité Olímpico Venezolano (C.O.V) y a las normativas internacionales de la Federación Ecuestre Internacional (FEI)”.[2]
When was the FVDE founded and where is it based?
The federation gives its origin in these words: “Todo inicia en 1947 cuando la señora Flor Isava Fonseca funda la Federación Venezolana de Deportes Ecuestres (FVDE) para ampliar las fronteras del deporte ecuestre venezolano y se nombra a una Junta Provisional encabezada por el Sr. Luis Villegas Febres quien lidero esta Federación.”[2] The 1947 founding is the federation’s own account; its affiliation to the FEI is a separate matter.
The FVDE’s offices are at the Centro Empresarial Lagunita, primer piso, oficinas 114–116, on Avenida Sur in the Urbanización Lagunita Country Club, Caracas.[1] The COV directory gives its Caracas telephone number and the handle @fvdeorg.[5]
The Junta Directiva for 2024–2028 is headed by Ángel Alberto Pérez as president, with Fernando Rivero as vice-president, Beatriz Urdaneta as general secretary and José Ignacio Baldo Michelena as treasurer, and six principal directors.[2]
How is the FVDE recognised?
World body. The federation states that it “está afiliada a la Federación Ecuestre Internacional (FEI)”, and its site displays the FEI among its international links, beside national federations of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Spain, France, Mexico and Uruguay.[2][1] Its national rules defer to the FEI’s: the jumping regulation applies the FEI’s jumping rules, and the dressage regulation refers every matter it does not cover to the FEI’s regulations and statutes.[4][6]
COV. The Comité Olímpico Venezolano includes the Federación Venezolana de Deportes Ecuestres in its directory of national federations.[5]
Venezuelan state. The FVDE states that it is affiliated to the Instituto Nacional del Deporte, and it lists among its duties to “Cumplir y hacer cumplir la ley Orgánica del Deporte, Actividad Física y Educación Física y su Reglamento”.[2]
What does the FVDE organise?
National championships. The federation runs season-long national championships in each discipline. In jumping, champions and runners-up are named in each category on points accumulated over the season (Article 208).[4] In dressage, the championship is “determinada de acuerdo al número de puntos obtenidos por los Campeonatos alcanzados al final del año”, with category points rising from the Introductoria level to the Big Tour, and a title is credited to the entity under which rider and horse have scored most points.[6] Its site publishes a 2026 season calendar and fee schedule.[1]
National teams. For official FEI team competition, the selection method is set by the board case by case: “el sistema de selección será indicado por la Junta Directiva de la F.V.D.E. en cada caso en particular” (dressage, Article 9.1), with the same rule for jumping (Article 209).[6][4] Selected horse-and-rider pairs have their national points accumulation suspended while they represent Venezuela.[6]
Who are its members?
The federation’s members are clubs and equestrian organisations. Its page lists as affiliated entities the Caracas Country Club (CCC), Club Hípico Caracas (CHC), Club de Equitación Hiparión (CEH), Club Campestre Los Cortijos (CCLC), the Fundación Ecuestre Brigadier Manuel Pérez Márquez (BRIMAPEMA), Lagunita Country Club (LCC), Club Hípico de Carabobo (CHDC) and the Escuela de Equitación del Ejército.[2]
Riders and horses compete through these entities and are registered with the FVDE; under the jumping regulation a rider may affiliate with more than one entity by paying the full annual fee for each.[4] The entity matters for the championship: where points are tied between clubs, the dressage title goes to “la entidad bajo la cual esté registrado el caballo o jinete ante la F.V.D.E. al final de la temporada”.[6]
