What is the FRMA?
The Fédération Royale Marocaine d’Athlétisme (FRMA; in Arabic, الجامعة الملكية المغربية لألعاب القوى) is the national body for athletics in Morocco. It describes itself as the federation competent for athletics in Morocco, grouping all the clubs and sports associations that practise the sport across the Kingdom.[3] Its legal form, by its own account, is “association de droit privé reconnue d’utilité publique” — a private-law association recognised as being of public utility — governed by the dahir of 15 November 1958 and by Law 30-09 on sport.[4]
What does the FRMA govern or do?
The FRMA states that it is “chargée d’organiser, d’encourager, de développer et de vulgariser la pratique de l’athlétisme” — charged with organising, encouraging, developing and popularising the practice of athletics.[4] Its site lists the training structures attached to it: the Institut National d’Athlétisme in Rabat, the Académie Internationale Mohammed VI d’Athlétisme and five regional training centres, at Benslimane, Benguérir, Khemisset, Khenifra and Tahanaout.[3]
When was the FRMA founded and where is it based?
The FRMA states that it was founded “le 3 décembre 1957” and that it has been affiliated to World Athletics since 1958.[4] Its seat is at the Complexe Sportif Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat, the address the federation gives on its presentation page.[4]
How is the FRMA recognised?
World Athletics. The Athletics Integrity Unit lists the Fédération Royale Marocaine d’Athlétisme (code MAR) in its List of Categorised National Federations as of 2026, drawn up under Rule 15 of the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules, placing it in category B.[1][2] The FRMA dates its affiliation to 1958.[4]
Africa. The same list assigns the federation to the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), of which the FRMA states it has been a member since 1973.[1][4]
What does the FRMA organise?
The FRMA’s site carries the Meeting International Mohammed VI d’Athlétisme and the Rabat meeting of the Diamond League, and lists the Arab U18 Athletics Championships among its events.[3] It gives figures of 11,739 competitions organised and 21 athletics tracks in the country (as shown in October 2026).[3]
Who are its members?
For the 2024–2025 season the FRMA reports 15 regional leagues, 205 affiliated clubs and associations and 16,291 licence holders, of whom 36% are women and 64% men; it states that under-18s make up 76% of its licence holders.[4] Its home page gives a figure of 223 affiliated clubs (as shown in October 2026).[3]
