What is the FJE?

The 公益社団法人日本フェンシング協会 (FJE), in English the Japanese Fencing Federation, is the national fencing federation of Japan.[4][3] It is a public interest incorporated association; its outline page states that “2013年7月1日に内閣総理大臣より公益社団法人として認定を受けました。”[4] The FIE lists it as “Federation Japonaise d’Escrime”, at 4-2 Kasumigaokamachi, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo.[1]

What does the FJE govern or do?

The federation states its purpose on its home page: “当協会は、我が国におけるフェンシング競技を統括する唯一の団体として、フェンシング競技を通して国民の心身の健全な発達に寄与することを目的にしています。” — that, as the sole body governing fencing in Japan, it aims to contribute to the sound physical and mental development of the people through fencing.[3]

Its home page carries partner logos linked to the sites of the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC) and the Japan Sport Council.[3] Its organisation page links its general-meeting and board reports and its committee rules.[5]

When was the FJE founded and where is it based?

The federation’s outline page states that it was founded on 23 October 1936 under the name 大日本アマチュアフェンシング協会 (“昭和11年10月23日、大日本アマチュアフェンシング協会の名称で創立”).[4] It became a public interest incorporated association on 1 July 2013 (“平成25年7月1日、公益社団法人へ移行”).[4]

The same page gives its address as “〒160-0013 東京都新宿区霞ヶ丘町4-2”.[4]

How is the FJE recognised?

International federation. The Fédération Internationale d’Escrime lists the Federation Japonaise d’Escrime in its directory, with Kenichi Chida as president and Toshiro Uchida as secretary general.[1] The FIE states that it has “156 affiliated Member Federations”, and lists five continental confederations that it recognises.[2]

Continental body. The FIE’s directory places the federation under the Fencing Confederation of Asia, for which it gives 42 members.[1]

Olympic committee and state. The federation’s home page carries a partner logo linked to the site of the Japanese Olympic Committee (joc.or.jp), and its status as a public interest incorporated association was granted by the Prime Minister in 2013.[3][4]

What does the FJE organise?

National championships. The federation’s home page published information on the individual and team events of the “第79回全日本フェンシング選手権大会”, the 79th All Japan Fencing Championships, in news posts dated 24 September and 15 October 2026.[3]

Other events. The same page refers to the 高円宮杯 2026 (Takamado Cup) and to fencing at the 第80回国民スポーツ大会, the 80th National Sports Festival.[3]

Who are its members?

The federation has prefectural branches (都道府県支部); its organisation page publishes a list of their officers for the 2026 fiscal year, “2026年度都道府県支部役員名簿”.[5] The same page links the reports of its general meeting (“総会報告”) and of its board (“理事会報告”), and an extract of its committee rules (“委員会運営規程より抜粋<別表>”).[5]
