What is the Federación Venezolana de Softbol?
The Federación Venezolana de Softbol is the national federation for softball in Venezuela. The Comité Olímpico Venezolano (COV) lists it among the “Federaciones inscritas en el Comité Olímpico Venezolano”, with Lic. María Soto as president and a telephone number and the handle @fevesoftbol.oficial as contacts.[1]
Softball and baseball have separate federations in Venezuela: the COV directory lists the softball federation and the Federación Venezolana de Béisbol (FEVEBEISBOL) as distinct bodies.[1] Under the Ley Orgánica de Deporte, Actividad Física y Educación Física of 2011, a national sports federation is an entity of private law “para la promoción y desarrollo del deporte y la actividad física con alcance y carácter nacional”.[5]
What does the federation govern or do?
Powers under Venezuelan law. Article 49 of the 2011 sports law gives national federations the direction of their sport’s activity, technical standards, disciplinary authority and the organisation of competitions.[5]
National teams. Venezuela fields men’s and women’s national softball teams. The COV, reporting the men’s gold at the 2026 South American Games, cited “la presidenta de la Federación Venezolana de Softbol, María Soto”.[2]
International competition. The world body for the sport is the World Baseball Softball Confederation, and its Americas confederation runs the continental championships: USA Softball reports that the 2026 Men’s Pan American Championship was organised by WBSC Americas and served as a qualifier for the group stage of the 2028 WBSC Men’s World Cup.[3]
When was the federation founded and where is it based?
The COV directory gives the federation’s president, Lic. María Soto, and a telephone number, +58 212 472 6934, as its contact.[1]
Venezuela’s place in organised international softball goes back at least to 1979. According to Softball Canada, the continental confederation now called WBSC Americas, formerly CONPASA, “was founded on July 3, 1979 in San Juan, Puerto Rico”, when softball leaders from the Netherlands Antilles, Argentina, Belize, Bermuda, Colombia, El Salvador, Mexico, Panama, the Dominican Republic and Venezuela “met with the purpose of establishing the Pan American Softball Confederation”.[4] That account names the country, not the federation, among the founders.
How is the federation recognised?
COV. The Comité Olímpico Venezolano lists the Federación Venezolana de Softbol among the federations registered with it.[1]
Continental body. Softball Canada’s list of the current members of WBSC Americas includes Venezuela.[4] The same source places Venezuela among the countries whose softball leaders met in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on 3 July 1979 to establish the confederation.[4] Venezuela took part in the WBSC Americas 2026 Men’s Pan American Championship.[3]
World body. The WBSC governs softball and baseball together; Softball Canada states that “over 128 countries” are affiliated with the WBSC Softball Division.[4]
Venezuelan law. Article 48 of the 2011 sports law defines national federations as private-law entities of national scope.[5]
What does the federation organise?
National teams. At the 2026 South American Games in Santa Fe, Argentina, Venezuela’s men beat the hosts, Argentina, in the final to win the gold medal, after losing both first-round games to them. The COV reported that the men’s title joined a gold won earlier at the same Games by the women’s team, noting that it was “la primera vez que se disputa el torneo en ambas ramas en una misma edición de la justa” — the first time both tournaments were played at one edition.[2]
Continental championships. Venezuela was among the teams at the 2026 Men’s Pan American Championship in Montería, Colombia, from 21 to 28 February 2026, organised by WBSC Americas, and played the United States there on 27 February.[3]
Youth Games. Caracas 2026, the II Juegos Bolivarianos de la Juventud, which the COV’s site lists under the date 25 November 2026, is to include “Sóftbol” among its team sports.[6]
Who are its members?
Under Article 48 of the 2011 sports law, Venezuelan national federations “están constituidas por los integrantes de las asociaciones deportivas estadales” — they are made up of the members of the state sports associations — and may in exceptional circumstances be formed directly by the members of clubs.[5] Article 44 defines a state association as a private-law entity made up of the clubs that promote a sport in that state.[5]
The federation is in turn a member body. It is listed by the COV,[1] and Venezuela is on Softball Canada’s list of the members of WBSC Americas, whose founding meeting in 1979 Venezuelan softball leaders attended.[4]
