What is FESFUT?

The Federación Salvadoreña de Fútbol (FESFUT) is the national association for football in El Salvador. Its official site, at fesfut.org.sv, presents it under that name and carries news, fixtures, results and national-team information.[1] FIFA lists it in English as the Salvadoran Football Association, in the Concacaf confederation, with www.fesfut.org.sv as its website and Yamil Bukele as president.[3] Concacaf’s profile gives the Spanish name, Federación Salvadoreña de Fútbol, under the FIFA code SLV.[4]

FIFA’s list of the federation’s officers names, beside the president, a vice-president, a general secretary, a media and communication manager, a technical director, the head coaches of the men’s and women’s national teams, the chair of the referees committee and a referee coordinator.[2]

What does FESFUT govern or do?

As the FIFA and Concacaf member for El Salvador, FESFUT is the body that answers to both for Salvadoran football and enters the country’s teams in their competitions.[3][4]

Its officers show the range of its work. A technical director oversees football development; the men’s and women’s national teams each have a head coach; and refereeing is run through a referees committee, with José Edgar Láinez as chair, and a referee coordinator, Joel Aguilar.[2] FIFA’s page for the association also carries FIFA’s April 2026 report on strengthening club management in El Salvador through its programme for the Americas.[3]

The federation’s site publishes news, matches and results alongside national-team information.[1]

When was FESFUT founded and where is it based?

FIFA gives the federation’s address as Avenida José Matías Delgado, opposite the Centro Español, Colonia Escalón, Zona 10, 1029 San Salvador.[2] Concacaf gives the same address in its member-association profile.[4]

Its confederation dates from 1961. Concacaf states that it “was established in 1961 from a vision of unity, officially formed through the merger of the North American Football Union (NAFU) and the Football Confederation of Central America and the Caribbean (CCCF)”.[5] Concacaf’s own profile of the federation dates El Salvador’s appearances in the FIFA World Cup to 1970 and 1982 — the earliest dated events it gives for the federation’s teams.[4]

How is FESFUT recognised?

FIFA. FIFA’s member-association page lists the Salvadoran Football Association in the Concacaf confederation, with its president and website, and records the association’s teams in FIFA competitions from the Olympic football tournament of 1968 and the FIFA World Cups of 1970 and 1982 to the FIFA U-17 World Cup of 2025.[3] FIFA’s organisation page gives its officers and address, and FIFA publishes world rankings for both the men’s and the women’s national teams the federation fields.[2][3]

Concacaf. El Salvador appears among the 41 member associations on Concacaf’s list, which runs “from Canada in the north to Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana in the south”, in Concacaf’s words.[6][5] Concacaf’s member-association profile names the federation and gives its address and telephone.[4]

What does FESFUT organise?

FESFUT fields El Salvador’s national teams. FIFA’s record of the association’s entries shows the range: the senior men’s team in the FIFA World Cup and its qualifiers, youth teams at the FIFA U-20 World Cup (2013) and the FIFA U-17 World Cup (2025), a beach soccer team at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, and an Olympic football team in 1968.[3] FIFA’s directory also names the head coach of the women’s national team.[2]

In Concacaf, the federation’s teams enter the Gold Cup, the Concacaf Nations League and World Cup qualifying. Concacaf’s profile describes El Salvador as “Two-time qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup” and records the men’s team’s promotion from League B of the Nations League and its qualification for “the Concacaf Gold Cup for the 12th time in 2021”. For the domestic women’s game, Concacaf states that “the Salvadoran Football Federation also launched a women’s league in 2010.”[4] The 2026 FIFA World Cup (11 June–19 July 2026) is past. The federation is one of the 41 national associations through which Concacaf’s competitions are entered, from the national-team tournaments to the club competitions such as the Concacaf Champions Cup.[6]

Who are its members?

FESFUT is itself a member of the two bodies above it. Concacaf’s members are national associations, not clubs: El Salvador is one of the 41 on the confederation’s list, alongside its Central American neighbours Belize, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama.[6] Concacaf traces its own formation to the 1961 merger of the North American Football Union (NAFU) and the Football Confederation of Central America and the Caribbean (CCCF), the regional body for Central America and the Caribbean.[5] At world level, FIFA lists the federation as the Salvadoran Football Association, in the Concacaf zone.[3]

Within the federation, FIFA’s directory names the leadership: president Yamil Bukele, vice-president Fabio Molina and general secretary Galo Izurieta, with the technical and refereeing officers named in §2.[2]
