What is FAPUR?
The Federación de Atletismo de Puerto Rico (FAPUR) is the national athletics federation of Puerto Rico. The Athletics Integrity Unit lists it under that name (code PUR) among the national federations of World Athletics, and NACAC lists it among its members.[1][3] The federation describes itself as “el organismo rector de este deporte en Puerto Rico” — the governing body of the sport in Puerto Rico.[5] Its Reglamento Número 1 opens: “Este organismo se denominará Federación de Atletismo de Puerto Rico.”[6]
What does FAPUR govern or do?
The 2004–2005 version of its Reglamento Número 1, the edition published on its site, states that the federation “acepta la responsabilidad de fomentar el deporte de atletismo”, gives it the task of deciding disputes among its members, and commits it to preventing discrimination “por razones de raza, religión, sexo o de cualquier otra índole”.[6] Its site publishes results, documents, a 2024–2025 season calendar and a 2024–2025 affiliation section, and refers to IAAF Kids Athletics.[4]
When was FAPUR founded and where is it based?
The 2004–2005 version of the federation’s Reglamento Número 1 describes its seal as bearing “el año de su fundación: 1947” and states that it is constituted for an indefinite period.[6] The same article provides that it “tendrá su domicilio oficial en San Juan, Capital de Puerto Rico.”[6] NACAC lists its address as Constitution Avenue, Building #3, 3rd Floor, San Juan; the federation’s own site gives Av. de la Constitución, San Juan, PR 00901.[3][4]
How is FAPUR recognised?
World Athletics. The Athletics Integrity Unit lists the Federación de Atletismo de Puerto Rico (code PUR) in its List of Categorised National Federations as of 2026, drawn up under Rule 15 of the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules, placing it in category B.[1][2] The 2004–2005 version of its regulations states that it “mantendrá su afiliación […] a la IAAF”, World Athletics’ former name.[6]
NACAC. NACAC’s members page lists the federation, with Luis Dieppa Roque as president, and the AIU list assigns it to NACAC.[3][1]
What does FAPUR organise?
The federation’s site links to its national championship (“Campeonato Nacional”) in youth (juvenil) and senior (superior) categories and to its 2024–2025 calendar, and to a Puerto Rico Road Race Championship over one mile.[4] The 2004–2005 version of its Reglamento Número 1 provides for a Comité de Fondismo (distance running), a Comité de Marcha Olímpica (race walking) and a Comité de Marcas y Estadísticas, and for delegates of the infantil, juvenil and superior categories.[6][6]
Who are its members?
The 2004–2005 version of the Reglamento Número 1 states: “Los organismos se conocerán como Afiliados, Asociados y Competidores.” The affiliated bodies it names are the Colegio de Oficiales de Atletismo de Puerto Rico and the Colegio de Entrenadores de Atletismo de Puerto Rico; the associated bodies include two inter-university sports bodies, the Asociación de Atletismo Juvenil e Infantil de Puerto Rico and the Asociación de Masters de Puerto Rico; and “Los Organismos Competidores son los miembros de la Federación de Atletismo de Puerto Rico que participan en las Justas de Pista y Campo de la Federación.”[6]
