What is the KBWB?

The Koninklijke Belgische Wielrijdersbond (KBWB), which publishes as Belgian Cycling, is the national federation for cycling in Belgium. Article 1 of its statutes gives its names as “Koninklijke Belgische Wielrijdersbond” (K.B.W.B.) and “Royale Ligue Vélocipédique Belge” (R.L.V.B.).[4] It is a vzw, a non-profit association, with company number BE 0410 602 582.[3]

The European Cycling Union (UEC) lists it as “Belgian Cycling”, with Tom Van Damme as president and Nathalie Clauwaert as general secretary.[2]

What does the KBWB govern or do?

Article 3 of its statutes gives its object as “de organisatie, de promotie en de verspreiding van de wielersport in België”, the organisation, promotion and spread of cycle sport in Belgium.[4]

Its site covers road, cyclo-cross, mountain bike, track, BMX, trial, gravel, para-cycling and esports, and carries information on UCI calendars and on the licensing of UCI Continental teams.[3] Two wing federations (“vleugelfederaties”), Cycling Vlaanderen and Wallonie-Bruxelles Cycling, work under it.[3]

When was the KBWB founded and where is it based?

The statutes in force were approved at an extraordinary general meeting on 28 September 2021; Article 4 states that the association “is opgericht voor onbepaalde duur”, set up for an indefinite period.[4] Under Article 2, its registered office is in the Brussels-Capital Region, and its operating seat is at Rue de Bruxelles 482, 1480 Tubize.[4] The UEC lists the same Tubize address.[2]

How is the KBWB recognised?

European Cycling Union. The UEC lists Belgium (BEL) among its 51 affiliated European federations, with a profile for Belgian Cycling.[1][2] It describes itself as forming “a liaison between the International Cycling Union (UCI) and the national federations which it represents in this instance”, and states: “Every european federation member of the UCI is automatically member of the UEC.”[1]

UCI. The federation’s site displays the logos of the UCI and the UEC, linked to their sites.[3] Article 6 of its statutes provides that any external interference “zal gemeld worden aan de U.C.I.”, will be reported to the UCI.[4]

What does the KBWB organise?

The federation publishes the calendar of Belgian championships across its disciplines. For 2026 its site listed road championships including a time trial on 26 June and a road race on 28 June, BMX racing on 5 July and the gravel championship on 16 August.[3] In cyclo-cross it lists a first set of category championships, including masters, on 22 November 2026, and the under-17, junior and under-23 championships, with the top category, on 9–10 January 2027.[3]

Who are its members?

Article 7 of the statutes states that “De vereniging telt enkel werkende leden”: the association has only full members, with at least 25.[4] Under Article 8, “De werkende leden worden aangeduid door de vzw CyV en vzw F.C.W.B.”, the two regional federations.[4] The federation’s site links to the sites of both wing federations, Cycling Vlaanderen and Wallonie-Bruxelles Cycling.[3]
