What is WAPA?
WAPA is a Puerto Rican television service with a news and video site at wapa.tv. The pages carry two corporate lines: “Copyright © 2000-2026 Televicentro de PR, LLC. (Wapa TV)” and “© 2026 Hemisphere Media Group, Inc. All rights reserved”, with an address at Carretera Estatal #19 Km 0.5 in Guaynabo.[1][2] Both lines are as printed on 23 September 2026; ownership statements of this kind go stale quickly, and this page reports what the operator's own pages printed on that date rather than adopting a current owner.
The same footer carries the service's own description of itself as “El portal de noticias, el tiempo y entretenimiento en video más grande de Puerto Rico”.[1] That is the operator's characterisation of its own site and it is quoted, not adopted.
The about page carries the same two corporate lines and the Guaynabo address and nothing else: no history, no launch date, no channel number and no statement of what the service is.[5] What can be established about the operator from its own pages is therefore the corporate names, the address and the date those lines carried when they were read.[5][1]
What does WAPA cover?
The site is organised around programme strands. Its schedule page lists the news hub Noticentro, the investigative strand Cuarto Poder, current-affairs and analysis strands, and a range of entertainment and lifestyle programmes.[2] Noticentro itself is divided into Locales, Política, Deportes, Entretenimiento, Internacionales, Salud, Ciencia, Negocios, Tecnología, Espacio and Estilo de Vida.[1]
Sport runs as a standing strand, Wapa Deportes, whose published coverage spans Major League Baseball, the Liga de Béisbol Profesional Roberto Clemente, FIBA competition, the NBA and the World Baseball Classic.[1][2] The sports section retrieved on 23 September 2026 carried MLB division and injury stories, NBA and FIBA items, a university three-on-three basketball tournament, interuniversity athletics and the national Special Olympics games at Ponce.[3]
It also covers the national teams. On 21 May 2026 it reported the draw for the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, placing Puerto Rico in Group B with North Korea, Poland and an African qualifier for a tournament in Morocco scheduled from 17 October to 7 November 2026.[4]
How large is WAPA's audience?
No audited audience figure for the service could be retrieved. The site publishes no rating, share or unique-user number on the pages retrieved, and the only quantitative claim on them is the operator's own description of the site as the largest news, weather and video entertainment portal on the island — a characterisation without a figure or a measurement source attached to it.[1][2]
No audited measurement currency for Puerto Rican television could be identified from the pages read, and no published rating for this service was retrieved. That is a limitation of the published evidence, not a statement about the service's reach.
Since when has WAPA existed?
EnciclopediaPR, the reference work published by Humanidades Puerto Rico, states that “El 5 de marzo de 1954 comenzó las transmisiones de prueba del canal 4 WAPA y comenzó su programación regular el 1 de mayo de ese año”; that is a single source and the operator's own pages carry no launch date.[6] The site's own about page carries an address and the two corporate lines but no history, launch date or channel number.[5]
The dated anchor the pages do provide is the copyright range “Copyright © 2000-2026 Televicentro de PR, LLC. (Wapa TV)”, which is a claim about the site rather than about the television service, and the reporting record itself, which runs to 21 May 2026 in the retrieved sports coverage and to 23 September 2026 in the section front.[1][4][3]
Why does WAPA matter in Puerto Rico's sport?
Because the sports strand is where the domestic and the national-team calendars are carried together. The same section that runs Major League Baseball and NBA items runs the World Baseball Classic, the winter baseball league, FIBA basketball and the interuniversity competition run by the Liga Atlética Interuniversitaria.[3]
Its reporting of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup draw is the kind of dated, checkable item a reference page can rest on: the group, the opponents, the host country and the tournament window, published on 21 May 2026.[4]
The section front also carries competition a general daily can skip. The Special Olympics national games at Ponce and the interuniversity athletics both appeared on it alongside the professional leagues, which is a breadth of coverage that can be checked against the section itself rather than asserted about it.[3] What cannot be established from the operator's pages is the service's own history, and this page does not supply one.[5]
