What is Venevisión?

Venevisión is a Venezuelan television network broadcasting nationally on channel 4. Its own site describes it as a Venezuelan free-to-air network operated by Cisneros Media and owned by the Organización Cisneros.[1] It is a general-entertainment channel: news, drama, variety, lifestyle programming and the Miss Venezuela pageant sit alongside a standing sports strand, and the website carries a Deportes section that runs national-team and domestic results.[1]

Sport is therefore a slice of the schedule rather than the whole of it, which distinguishes Venevisión from the country's sport-only channels. What gives it weight in sport is distribution and rights: it is one of the two long-established private networks with a national free-to-air signal, and in the 2025-26 season it was among the eight television services listed as carrying games of the Liga Venezolana de Béisbol Profesional, on positions 4, 24 HD and 102.[3]

What does Venevisión cover?

The network's sports output is built around events with a mass domestic audience rather than around continuous beat reporting. Baseball is the anchor. In the 2025-26 Venezuelan professional season Venevisión appeared in the published channel list for league games[3] and again in the February 2026 guide to the championship final between Navegantes del Magallanes and Caribes de Anzoátegui, a best-of-seven series split between Anzoátegui and Valencia.[5]

Away from baseball the Deportes section of venevision.com runs national-team and multi-sport news items, including volleyball and other federation competitions, rather than dedicated statistical coverage.[1] The channel does not publish a results-and-records database, and its written sports coverage is shorter than that of the country's sports dailies. Its distinctive contribution is live pictures: for a Venezuelan household without a cable subscription, a game on Venevisión is a game that can be watched without one.

What are Venevisión's reach and standing?

Venevisión's reach rests on free-to-air distribution. The network has broadcast since 1961 and is carried both over the air and on the cable line-ups of the main operators.[2][3] No independent audience-measurement figure for the Venezuelan television market could be retrieved for this page, so the reach claim here rests on carriage rather than on a rating.

The clearest evidence of standing in sport is the rights position. Eight television services carried the 2025-26 Venezuelan professional baseball season. The guide gives cable positions for all of them and does not record which were also available over the air.[3] Venezuela's victory over the United States in the World Baseball Classic final at loanDepot park on 17 March 2026 — the country's first title in the competition, won 3-2 — is the kind of event for which a national free-to-air network is the default destination.[4]

Since when?

The network's own account sets out three dates. The Cisneros organisation founded Venevisión in July 1960; the channel broadcast for the first time on 27 February 1961; and regular transmissions as a Venezuelan free-to-air channel began on 1 March 1961. The same account records that channel 4 in Caracas had previously been operated by Televisión Independiente Televisa, which suspended transmissions in mid-1959.[2] That article was published on 1 March 2023 and marked the network's 62nd year.

Ownership has stayed within the same corporate group across that period: the network's site in 2026 describes it as operated by Cisneros Media, the media arm of the group founded by Diego Cisneros.[1][2] Founding, first transmission and start of regular service are separate dates here and are kept separate: the channel itself uses 1 March 1961 as its anniversary.

Why does Venevisión matter in Venezuela's sport?

Venevisión matters because of who can see it. It is a free-to-air network a viewer receives without a subscription,[1] and it was one of eight television services carrying Venezuelan professional baseball in 2025-26.[3] Coverage on a national free-to-air network is therefore coverage that is not gated behind a subscription, which is the relevant distinction when the question is how many people in the country actually saw a given athlete play.

It also matters because of duration. A channel transmitting since 1961 under the same corporate group has carried Venezuelan sport across every generation of the modern domestic calendar, and its archive of pageants, drama and sport is one of the longest continuous television records in the country.[2][1] For a reader asking which Venezuelan broadcaster carried a national sporting moment, Venevisión is one of the two or three names that recur.
