What is Sky Sport Italia?

Sky Sport is the sports service of Sky Italia, the Italian pay-television and streaming operator. The operator's own site carries the footer line “Copyright 2026 Sky Italia - P.IVA 04619241005”, and describes the sports offer in its own words: “Su Sky Sport puoi vedere le Coppe europee, tutta la Formula 1 e la MotoGP in diretta esclusiva, il grande tennis, il basket e tanto altro sport”.[2]

Sky Italia is part of the Sky group, which operates in several European markets. No primary source establishing the date on which Sky Italia was constituted, or the corporate transaction that created it, could be retrieved for this page; the dated anchors given below are the rights cycles and the audience measurements, which are documented.

The service is one of two platforms carrying Serie A in Italy under the current cycle, the other being DAZN. The split between them is set out in the rights award described below.[3]

What does Sky Sport Italia cover?

Sky's own guide to the 2024-2029 Serie A cycle states that “Sky has acquired for the 2024/2029 cycle co-exclusive rights to 3 matches per matchday”, amounting to 114 matches of Serie A Enilive per season, including at least 30 of the best 76 matches and four direct meetings between the larger clubs, all available in 4K, together with highlights of all 380 matches. The three slots are given as Saturday 20:45, Sunday 18:00 and Monday 20:45.[1]

On European club football, the same Sky page states exclusivity on 185 of the 203 UEFA Champions League matches a season, played on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and on all UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League matches on Thursdays.[1]

Outside football, Sky states that it carries all of Formula One and MotoGP live and exclusively, plus tennis and basketball.[2] Some of that carriage is bounded by regulation: AGCOM's council decision of 29 April 2026 keeps Formula One and MotoGP races held in Italy, the Giro d'Italia, Italy's national football team matches and the Six Nations with Italy on the list of events that must be available to at least 80 per cent of the population without payment.[6]

How large is Sky Sport Italia's audience?

Italian television audiences are measured by Auditel. Calcio e Finanza, reporting on 16 January 2026, put Serie A on Sky at more than 27 million cumulative viewers across the first half of the 2025-26 season, 4.7 per cent below the same point of the previous season, on the Auditel total audience system in use since 2022-23. The same report put the combined Serie A figure across Sky and DAZN at more than 139 million for that half-season.[4]

The measurement method is documented by Audicom, which publishes the total audience reports for Serie A: viewing of the satellite platform's channels is measured through the Auditel SuperPanel sample, while streaming viewing is census-based through the Auditel software development kit across all devices.[5]

No subscriber figure for Sky Italia could be retrieved from a source consulted for this page, and none is stated here. The audience figures above are the measured numbers available.

Since when has Sky Sport Italia existed?

The documented anchors for this service are its rights cycles rather than a corporate founding date, which could not be established from a retrieved source. The current Serie A arrangement was decided by the Lega Serie A assembly on Monday 23 October 2023, which awarded the five seasons from 2024-25 to 2028-29 to DAZN and Sky for about 900 million euro a season to the clubs — approximately 700 million from DAZN and 200 million from Sky — with 17 club presidents in favour, Cagliari and Salernitana against and Napoli abstaining.[3]

That cycle runs to the end of the 2028-29 season and had not been re-tendered as at 19 September 2026; the 2026-27 season is being played under it.[1][3]

DAZN's own announcement of 12 January 2024 describes the complementary half of the same award: seven exclusive matches a matchday, 266 a season, plus the three co-exclusive matches, 114 a season, that Sky also carries.[7] The two statements agree on the split.

Why does Sky Sport Italia matter in Italy's sport?

Under the 2024-29 cycle, Italian top-flight football reaches television viewers through two platforms, and Sky holds one of the two packages: three matches a round, the highlights of all 380, and the European club competitions on the same service.[1][3]

The measured consequence is visible in the audience series: more than 27 million cumulative Serie A viewers on Sky across the first half of the 2025-26 season, against more than 112 million on DAZN over the same matchdays.[4] The two platforms carry different numbers of matches, which is part of why the totals differ.

Sky's pay-television position is bounded by the free-to-air rules. The AGCOM decision of 29 April 2026 sets out which events must reach at least 80 per cent of the Italian population without payment, and adds further categories — the Coppa Italia final, Conference League semi-finals and finals involving Italian clubs, ATP and WTA Masters 1000 tournaments with Italian players — from the expiry of existing contracts rather than immediately.[6]
