What is MotoGP?
MotoGP is motorcycling's premier class and the oldest world championship in motorsport, run since 1949. Its prototypes make over 250 horsepower and touch 220 mph, ridden at lean angles past 60 degrees with elbows on the tarmac. Marc Márquez won the 2025 title on the factory Ducati — a seventh MotoGP crown and ninth overall, sealed at the Japanese Grand Prix 2,184 days after his previous championship, following the arm injury that nearly ended his career.[1] [2]
How does it work?
Around twenty grand prix weekends, each with a Saturday sprint and Sunday race, across the MotoGP, Moto2, Moto3 and electric MotoE classes — a documented ladder where riders progress upward by results and factory selection.[1] [3]
Why does it matter?
It is two-wheeled racing's summit — the championship of Agostini, Rainey, Doohan, Rossi and Márquez — and the sport's global stage across Europe, Asia, the Americas and Australia.[2] [3]
