What is RTL Hrvatska?

RTL Hrvatska is a Croatian commercial broadcaster and news site. The impressum of rtl.hr names the company as “RTL Hrvatska d.o.o. za usluge”, seated at Krapinska 45, HR-10000 Zagreb, with the tax number 07330149920; it lists Styliani Litou as president of the management board and Tonko Weissmann as a board member, and Diana Batoš as “glavna urednica RTL.hr-a”, editor-in-chief of the site.[1]

Ownership has changed in the past five years and the change is documented. PPF announced on 14 February 2022 that “CME has signed an agreement with RTL Group Central & Eastern Europe GmbH to acquire 100% of RTL Hrvatska d.o.o., (RTL Croatia), a commercial broadcaster in Croatia”, together with long-term rights to use the RTL brand in the country, at a stated value of €50 million.[2] The Euromedia Ownership Monitor's Croatia report, 2025 edition, published in December 2025, records RTL Hrvatska's owner as “CME/PPF”.[3] That is the position the monitor recorded at that date.

What does RTL Hrvatska cover?

The site carries general news alongside entertainment and sport, with sport prominent in its own scheduling: its handball coverage in early 2025 was built round a studio programme, Vrijeme je za rukomet, running either side of live matches.[4]

The property that defined that period was the 29th IHF Men's World Championship, co-hosted by Croatia with Denmark and Norway from 14 January to 2 February 2025, with matches in Zagreb, Varaždin and Poreč and the final in Oslo.[5] RTL carried Croatia's matches, among them the Croatia–Slovenia main-round match of 26 January 2025[6] and the Croatia–Denmark final of 2 February 2025.[4] Broadcast rights are sold tournament by tournament and expire on their own terms, so no continuing rights holding is asserted here.

How large is RTL Hrvatska's audience?

Two dated figures are on the record, both published by the broadcaster and both attributed by it to AGB Nielsen. For the Croatia–Denmark final of 2 February 2025, RTL reported that “finalnu utakmicu na RTL-u je pratilo, prema podacima AGB Nielsena, skoro 1,8 milijuna navijača čime je ostvaren udio u gledanosti veći od 70 % u ukupnoj populaciji” — almost 1.8 million viewers and a viewing share above 70 per cent in the total-population target group — and put the studio programme above 1.2 million viewers and the RTL Danas bulletin at a 42 per cent share.[4] For the Croatia–Slovenia main-round match of 26 January 2025 it reported more than 1,350,000 viewers and a 57 per cent share, with the pre-match programme at 32 per cent and above 750,000 viewers.[6]

Those are single-event peaks published by the rights holder, not an audited annual average, and no annual measured share for RTL Hrvatska could be retrieved for this page. Croatian broadcasters also cite different measurement providers: HRT's own 2025 reports cite AllEyesOnScreens rather than AGB Nielsen, so the figures are not compared here.

Since when has RTL Hrvatska existed?

The company is registered as RTL Hrvatska d.o.o. za usluge at Krapinska 45 in Zagreb.[1] No dated statement of when the company was founded or when the channel first broadcast could be retrieved from the company's own pages for this page, and none is stated here.

What is dated is the change of control. PPF's announcement of 14 February 2022 records the agreement under which CME acquired the whole of the company from RTL Group Central & Eastern Europe GmbH, with long-term use of the RTL brand in Croatia, for a stated €50 million; the release names no completion date and no required approvals.[2] The Euromedia Ownership Monitor's 2025 edition records the resulting owner as CME/PPF.[3]

Why does RTL Hrvatska matter in Croatia's sport?

Because the largest audience figures Croatian broadcasters published in 2025 were published by it, for handball. RTL described the Croatia–Denmark final as the most-watched television programme in Croatia of the preceding year on AGB Nielsen figures, and the Croatia–Slovenia main-round match as the most-watched programme of that year to date.[4][6] Both are the broadcaster's characterisations of its own measured numbers, given here with the measurement company it named.

Its position in the market is described by monitoring bodies rather than by this page. The Euromedia Ownership Monitor's Croatia report, 2025 edition, lists RTL Hrvatska among the major outlets it covers and reports that the “European Commission's 2024 and 2025 Rule of Law Reports underlined that ultimate ownership structures are not always clear” across the Croatian market.[3] The Media Pluralism Monitor for Croatia, 2026 edition, scores Market Plurality at 60 per cent and finds that “market concentration remained extremely high in audiovisual markets and largely unmonitored in digital advertising and online news distribution.”[7]
