What is Our News?
Our News is a Bahamian news operation publishing on television and online. Its own site states that it covers "breaking news, investigative reports, and exclusive stories from all across The Bahamas and beyond", and the site is credited in its own footer to REV Media.[2]
REV is one of the brands of Cable Bahamas, a telecommunications company whose own site, retrieved on 18 September 2026, listed Our TV among its brands alongside Rev, ALIV, ALIVFibr and ALIV Business, linked Our TV to ournews.bs, and described the company as operating since 1995.[5] That listing is the corporate connection as it stood on the date of writing; no share register or ownership filing for the news operation itself could be retrieved.
The site carries a standing sports section alongside its news, video and regional feeds, and publishes video as well as text.[2][3]
What does Our News cover?
The sports section, retrieved on 18 September 2026, carried items on the senior women’s national basketball team rising twenty places in the FIBA world rankings, on a Bahamian basketball player entering a second season with a Turkish club, on a Bahamian baseball player returning to shortstop before the play-offs, and on Bahamian track and field athletes at international finals, including a disqualification in a championship final and a fourth place in a 100 metres hurdles final. Most items on that section page carry no visible date; the one that does is dated 17 February 2022 and bylined to Our News.[3]
Event coverage is better dated. On 3 April 2026 the outlet reported that KFC Nassau had come in as platinum sponsor of its coverage of the CARIFTA Games, which were then still to come; the report is the outlet’s own account of its own broadcast arrangement and is attributed as such.[4] That is the clearest dated instance retrieved of the newsroom carrying a regional championship.
The sports remit was part of the newscast’s design. A report dated 31 March 2016 on the relaunch of the channel records that the daily news programme NB12 was rebranded Our News with a significant expansion that included sports news, enhanced weather and business reporting, and coverage from islands throughout The Bahamas, and that Cable Bahamas put more than 1.5 million dollars into a new production studio.[6]
How large is Our News's audience?
No measured audience figure, ratings return or viewership survey for Our News or for the Our TV channel could be retrieved. Neither the outlet’s own site nor the Cable Bahamas corporate site publishes one.[2][5] No Bahamian audience-measurement body publishing broadcast ratings could be identified. That is a limitation in the available evidence and no substitute figure is offered.
Two structural points are documented instead. The channel is carried on the Cable Bahamas television platform, which is how its distribution was described at the 2016 relaunch, and the same report records the operator’s investment of more than 1.5 million dollars in production facilities for it.[6] Cable Bahamas describes itself as the country’s first and only wholly Bahamian-owned triple-play provider; that is the company’s own description of itself.[5]
Neither of those is a measure of how many people watch a sports bulletin, and neither is used here as one.
Since when has Our News existed?
The outlet’s own history page traces the operation to 2003, when a five-minute news update called Newsbreak began on Cable Bahamas channel 12, presented by Jerome Sawyer and produced from an office at Island FM on Dowdswell Street in Nassau. The page records the programme growing into NB-12, and states that the operation marked twenty years in March 2023.[1]
The present name is separately dated. A report dated 31 March 2016 records that REV’s community channel, Cable 12, was rebranded and relaunched as Our TV in high definition on that day, in what the report calls the channel’s first major change in nearly eighteen years, and that the daily news programme NB12 was rebranded Our News at the same time.[6] Launch in 2003, rebranding in 2016 and the twentieth anniversary marked in 2023 are three separate events and are kept separate here.
No date could be retrieved for the founding of a distinct sports desk. What is dated is that sports news was named as one of the additions at the 2016 relaunch, and that sports reporting under the Our News byline was being published by February 2022 and event coverage was being sponsored and promoted by April 2026.[6][3][4]
Why does Our News matter in The Bahamas' sport?
Our News carries Bahamian sport as a standing section rather than as occasional items, and is attached to a Bahamian cable and telecommunications operator.[3][5] That gives national team coverage a distribution route independent of the state broadcaster’s over-the-air transmitters.
Its sporting value is clearest at regional championships. The 3 April 2026 report of a platinum sponsorship for its CARIFTA Games coverage is the outlet’s own account of taking a regional junior championship to Bahamian viewers, and CARIFTA is the regional age-group championship at which Bahamian athletics and swimming juniors compete.[4]
The newsroom also has continuity behind it. On its own account it runs back to a five-minute bulletin in 2003, which gives sport in The Bahamas a video record going back more than two decades.[1] Sports news was written into the remit at the 2016 relaunch rather than added later.[6]
