What is NEWS.am Sport?
NEWS.am Sport is the sports edition of News.am, published on the subdomain sport.news.am. The site carries language switches for Armenian, Russian and English, and its footer reads “All rights reserved. © 2026 NEWS.am”, with copyright attributed to the Armenian News-NEWS.am information-analytical agency.[1]
Media Ownership Monitor Armenia's profile of the parent records the legal entity as “News AM” LLC, states that the website has been operational since 2009 and that the company was founded in 2011, and gives Armenika Kiviryan as sole owner with 100 per cent as at 9 October 2018.[2] The same profile records that News.am “maintains five websites: the main news platform plus four specialized sites covering sports, technology, fashion, and medicine.”[2] News.am is one of the fifteen online outlets in the monitor's 2025 study.[3]
What does NEWS.am Sport cover?
The section structure is broad and standing. The English edition lists football, chess, boxing, basketball, auto and moto, and tennis as top-level sections, with an other-sports index covering athletics, martial arts, badminton, wrestling, rowing, handball, cycling, hockey, shooting, equestrian, winter sports, judo, field hockey, gymnastics, archery, weightlifting, sambo, table tennis, sport dance, fencing, volleyball, water sports, rugby, futsal and fitness.[1]
The coverage is dated and includes governing-body decisions. On 11 October 2017 the site published “UEFA Nations League: Armenia and Azerbaijan, Russia and Ukraine will not be drawn into the same”, reporting UEFA's statement on the draw for the competition and the draw date of 24 January 2018 in Lausanne.[4] Its most recent item at the time of retrieval was dated 22 September 2026 and covered the pairings of the Armenian teams in round seven of the Chess Olympiad.[1]
The breadth of that index is the point of difference from a general title's sport desk: alongside the sports in which Armenia holds Olympic medals it maintains separate standing indexes for sports with no Armenian Olympic medal at all, among them rowing, handball, archery, fencing, rugby and futsal, and it runs an auto and moto section as a top-level heading rather than inside a general other-sports index.[1] The 2017 UEFA item is a reported governing-body statement rather than the site's own account: it names the competition, the number of leagues and the draw date, and attributes the substance to UEFA.[4] That item carries no journalist's byline, and the page gives an advertising contact rather than a named editorial one.[4]
How large is NEWS.am Sport's audience?
No audited audience figure for the sports edition could be retrieved, and none is given here.
What exists is a company-supplied figure for the parent. Media Ownership Monitor Armenia reports, as company-provided data, “an average of 10 million monthly visitors, with 60% from Armenia, 15% from Russia, 8% from EU countries, 6% from the United States, and 11% from other countries.”[2] That is the company's own figure, it is not audited measurement, and it covers News.am rather than this subdomain.
The absence of an audited currency is itself documented: Media Ownership Monitor Armenia states that “Armenia's television industry has operated without reliable audience gauging for nearly a decade”, and records a memorandum of 7 August 2025 between the Media Industrial Committee and Inditronics Media Private Limited on television audience measurement.[5] On published context for the environment, Reporters Without Borders placed Armenia 50th of 180 in its 2026 World Press Freedom Index with a score of 67.02.[6]
Since when has NEWS.am Sport existed?
The sports edition carries no founding statement of its own on the pages retrieved. Its parent's dates come from Media Ownership Monitor Armenia, which gives the website as operational since 2009 and the company “News AM” LLC as founded in 2011 — two different dates for two different things, kept apart here.[2]
The earliest dated item retrieved on the sports subdomain is from 11 October 2017, and the latest from 22 September 2026, which brackets continuous publication across that period without establishing a start date.[4][1]
Why does NEWS.am Sport matter in Armenia's sport?
It is one of two specialist sports titles on this list publishing daily, and the only one of them publishing in three languages, which makes Armenian sport results and federation announcements retrievable in Russian and English as well as Armenian.[1]
Its sectioning tracks the sports in which Armenia's record sits: standing wrestling, weightlifting, judo, sambo and chess indexes alongside football and basketball.[1] Its 2017 report of UEFA's position on the Nations League draw is an example of governing-body decisions being carried with their date.[4]
Its ownership is documented rather than inferred, by a named monitoring body and as at a stated date, which is what allows the outlet to be placed at all in a market without audited audience figures.[2][5]
