What is ლელო?
ლელო is a Georgian sports title published at lelo.ge, where the site styles itself Lelo.Ge. Its own navigation runs ყველა სიახლე, ფეხბურთი, კალათბურთი, რაგბი, ჭიდაობა, სხვა, ოქროს ფონდი, გაზეთი, სასკოლო სპორტი and კონტაქტი, and the site carried items dated 22 and 23 September 2026 when it was read.[1]
The title began in print, and the printed edition and the site are not the same thing. Media Checker reported on 20 March 2020 that the editorial team had suspended publication of the newspaper in response to the coronavirus situation then developing in the country, that the suspension applied to the printed edition while the online operation continued as normal, and that the editorial team said readers would be told through lelo.ge when publication resumed.[2] No resumption of the printed edition was retrieved for this page, so what is described here is the site.
On ownership, Media Checker's report places the title in the Palitra Media holding and dates that to 2008.[2] The site's own pages read for this page carry no footer copyright line, no publisher name and no about page stating either.[1]
What does ლელო cover?
Its own navigation groups the coverage. Football, basketball, rugby and wrestling each have a standing heading, with a further სხვა heading for the rest.[1]
Two of those headings are worth naming because they are not the standard set. სასკოლო სპორტი is a school sport heading, and ოქროს ფონდი is an archive heading; both sit in the main navigation rather than below it.[1]
The გაზეთი heading is where the newspaper sits. Ambebi reported on 5 May 2014 that a colour weekly given as ლელო week was published on Saturdays alongside the regular edition.[3] That report is dated six years before the suspension Media Checker records, and is not evidence of what is printed now.[2]
How large is ლელო's audience?
No audited measurement of the site's audience could be retrieved. The figure that exists is a traffic counter's and it is a single day's reading.
TOP.GE, a Georgian site-ranking counter, listed lelo.ge seventh in its sport category when that page was read on 23 September 2026, with 7,208 hits and 3,628 unique visitors. The page states that its statistics are generated from the previous day, so both numbers are one day's figures and not a period average. The ordering on that page is not by either of the two columns it prints: the entry placed sixth carried 6,514 hits.[4]
No circulation figure for the printed edition was retrieved. Media Checker's report of the suspension gives no print run, and neither does Ambebi's report.[2][3] For television the currency named in the European Journalism Centre's Media Landscapes report is TV MR Ge; no audited currency for Georgian print or online publishing was retrieved for this page.[5]
Since when has ლელო existed?
Two secondary reports agree on the origin and neither is the title's own. Media Checker reported on 20 March 2020 that the paper began as საქართველოს ფიზკულტურელი, with its first issue on 13 April 1934, and that it took the name ლელო on 10 July 1949.[2] Ambebi reported on 5 May 2014 that the first issue was printed on 13 April 1934 and that the title has carried the name ლელო from 1949 onwards.[3]
The two differ on what else they record. Ambebi states that the title was founded by the Georgian National Olympic Committee and the Association of Georgian Sports Journalists.[3] Media Checker states that it appeared three times a week at first and became a daily from 1960.[2] No founding instrument from either body was retrieved, and the site's own pages state no founding date and carry no copyright range.[1]
Why does ლელო matter in Georgia's sport?
Two documented things put it here rather than a characterisation. The first is its position on the counter this list uses elsewhere: seventh of the twenty entries in TOP.GE's sport category on the day that page was read, with the figures given above.[4] The second is the dated origin two independent reports give it, a first issue on 13 April 1934 and the name from 1949.[2][3]
It also sits in the same holding as one of the general publishers on this list. Media Checker places ლელო in Palitra Media, and Media Meter's profile of the news agency ინტერპრესნიუსი places that agency in the same holding; neither publisher states any editorial arrangement between them.[2][6]
Published monitoring of the market is reported here in the monitor's own words. Reporters Without Borders placed Georgia 135th of 180 countries in its 2026 World Press Freedom Index with a score of 40.77, and writes under its media-landscape heading that “the media landscape is diverse and, at the same time, highly politically polarised” and that print readership is declining while online news consumption rises.[7] Neither clause is addressed to this title.
